Bihar’s Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, announced plans to establish approximately 700 Saraswati Vidya Niketan Model Schools across the state. This initiative aims to provide students with the necessary facilities and academic resources for preparing for competitive exams, particularly the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).

The announcement was made during the Teacher’s Day celebrations held on September 5, 2026, at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall in Patna. Choudhary emphasised that these model schools would be equipped to ensure students receive comprehensive support for their academic pursuits.

Additionally, Choudhary stated that a separate Teacher Training University would be set up to enhance teacher quality across all levels of education. With over seven lakh teachers engaged from primary education to higher education institutions, the university aims to provide regular training and development.

Developing an Artificial Intelligence Ecosystem

The Chief Minister further elaborated on the creation of a modern artificial intelligence ecosystem in collaboration with notable technology firms, including Google and Microsoft. He highlighted the importance of integrating AI technologies into the educational framework and expressed commitment to providing teachers with updated training in these technologies.

An official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Bihar Education Department and Google during the event, facilitating the training of teachers in artificial intelligence and associated modern technologies. This partnership aims to enhance the digital literacy and skills of educators, thereby improving the quality of education in the state.

Choudhary also mentioned efforts to establish a branch of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Bihar, with the objective of advancing higher education opportunities for local students. This initiative seeks to broaden access to quality education at the tertiary level, thereby encouraging academic excellence.

Proposed Reforms in the Examination System

In addition, arrangements are being made to publish engineering and polytechnic examination results within 24 hours. To ensure improved efficiency in the examination process, a committee, led by a sitting High Court judge, has been formed to recommend structural changes to the system.

The Chief Minister indicated the government’s intention to decentralise the examination process, allowing for results to be released per examination centre. This approach aims to mitigate delays and foster timely admissions for students across the state. Choudhary expressed confidence that these measures would significantly streamline the educational assessment framework.

Further discussing Bihar’s educational advancements, he noted that dropout rates in primary education had decreased substantially, dropping from around 46 per cent in 2004-05 to 2 per cent anticipated by 2024-25. Secondary and higher secondary dropout rates had also seen a significant decline.

In concluding remarks, Choudhary acknowledged the contributions of several educators, including Gopalganj teacher Pushpa Prasad and Banka teacher Khushboo Kumari, who were recognised with national awards during the Teacher’s Day programme attended by various senior officials from the education sector.
