Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s descendent urges President Murmu to get back his ashes from Japan’s Renkō-ji temple

The CSR Journal Magazine

The ‘remains’ preserved in Japan’s Renkō-ji temple belong to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. His descendent and former BJP leader Chandra Bose has written a letter to President Droupadi Murmu requesting her to take initiative in getting the remains of the great leader back to his motherland.

If the claim made by Chandra Bose is true, then it gives validity to the theory that Netaji Subhash died in a plane crash on August 18, 1945. His descendent Chandra Bose in his letter urged the President of India that Netaji’s ashes be returned to the country and the patriot should be given his due respect.

80 years of Azad Hind Fauj (INA)

In his letter to the President, Chandra Bose says, “We recently celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Azad Hind Fauj. As far as I know, a memorial will also be built in Delhi in the name of the INA (Indian National Army). As a member of Netaji’s family, I feel that more importance should be given to preserving the memory of Netaji and the Azad Hind Fauj so that the present and future generations get inspiration from that struggle.”

Chandra Bose further wrote in the letter, “As you know, Netaji’s remains are preserved in the Renkoji temple in Japan. Earlier, members of the INA, Netaji’s daughter Anita Paff and we, members of the Bose family, have appealed to the Government of India many times to repatriate those ashes to the country. The ashes of the patriot should now be returned to his motherland. Please take positive steps in this regard.”

Did Netaji die on August 18 plane crash?

The debate over whether the remains preserved in Japan’s Renkō-ji temple belong to Netaji Subhash has been going on for a long time. Many are reluctant to accept the theory that Netaji died in a plane crash at the Taihoku Airbase in Japan on August 18, 1945. A section of Netaji’s family claims that a Taiwan report in 1956 stated that there was no plane crash at Taihoku on August 18, 1945. People mentioned by the Indian government at that time as witnesses to Netaji’s death have failed to provide any evidence of Netaji’s death or even the plane crash.

However, Bose’s daughter and economist Anita Bose Paff has been claiming for a long time that the ashes kept in Japan’s Renkō-ji temple belong to her father. She has also urged that they should be returned to the country. Anita claims that DNA testing can be done on Netaji’s ashes. This will disprove those who think that the ashes kept in Japan’s Renkō-ji temple are not Netaji’s. Now, Bose’s another descendant Chandra Bose is also speaking on the lines of his daughter.
