The CSR Journal Magazine

The Shimla district police have apprehended a suspect related to a murder case in Theog subdivision within 24 hours of the incident. The event occurred on February 28, 2026, in Village Jarai, located in the Post Office Devgarh area of Theog Tehsil. An FIR was filed at the Theog Police Station under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code based on the complaint lodged by Jagdish, a local farmer involved in agriculture and horticulture.

Events Leading to the Discovery of the Body

According to Jagdish, he had permitted a Nepali family, consisting of Suresh, his wife, their five children, and his nephew Dhani Ram, to stay in two rooms within his orchard shed for labor purposes. On the morning of February 28, Jagdish found both rooms locked upon arriving at the shed. After further investigation, one room was discovered to be empty while Dhani Ram was found unconscious on the floor in the second room. He was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene, raising suspicions about the involvement of Suresh, who had reportedly fled with his family.

Investigation and Forensic Examination

A forensic team, along with the State Forensic Science Laboratory from Junga, was summoned to examine the crime scene. The Deputy Superintendent of Police from Theog also visited the location for an initial inspection. Physical and digital evidence was meticulously gathered, leading to the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to facilitate the inquiry into the incident.

Tracing the Suspect

The police reviewed CCTV footage from nearby areas and organized three teams to locate the suspect. Descriptions of Suresh were disseminated through various media platforms. Through analysis of the CCTV footage and additional local inquiries, law enforcement obtained intelligence indicating that Suresh was hiding in the Village Sharmathu under the Sharmala Panchayat.

Arrest of the Suspect

On March 1, 2026, a police team successfully executed a raid in Sharmathu village, leading to Suresh’s arrest. Preliminary inquiries suggest that Suresh allegedly killed Dhani Ram while under the influence of alcohol, motivated by a prior conflict between them, and used an agricultural tool as the weapon in the act. The investigation is still ongoing to gather further evidence and details regarding the case.

Police Statement on the Incident

Additional Superintendent of Police Shimla, Abhishek, remarked on the prompt action taken by the Shimla Police in apprehending the suspect within a day. He emphasized that the ongoing investigation will be thorough, and appropriate actions will follow based on the collected evidence.
