Mumbai Airport Records 66 Flight Cancellations on March 8

The CSR Journal Magazine

Mumbai Airport experienced considerable travel disruptions on March 8, with a total of 66 flight cancellations recorded. This included 32 flights that were scheduled to arrive and 34 departures. The cancellations stemmed from ongoing issues related to a conflict in West Asia that has been impacting flight operations significantly.

Past Cancellations Highlight Ongoing Challenges

Earlier on March 3, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport witnessed 107 flight cancellations due to the same regional conflict. Official records indicated that this earlier disruption comprised 54 arrivals and 53 departures, resulting in numerous passengers facing difficulties and a lack of adequate facilities at the airport.

Passenger Experiences Amid Disruptions

Passengers stranded due to these cancellations have expressed their concerns over inadequate support at the airport. One individual stated that their family had booked a flight for Umrah, originally scheduled for March 1, which was postponed because of the current situation. They mentioned that their new flight is set for the evening of March 8.

Another passenger, arriving from Chapra, shared his experience of a cancelled flight to Dubai. He described spending the night on the airport floor due to a lack of accommodations, stating, “There is no facility at the airport, so I am sleeping on the floor. We need a place to sleep, to stay, and to eat.”

Civil Aviation Ministry Monitoring Situation

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has stated that it is actively monitoring the ongoing situation in West Asia, which is affecting air travel between India and the region. The ministry has indicated that airline operators are making necessary adjustments to their operations to ensure passenger safety and maintain orderly flight schedules amid these prevailing conditions.

Flight Operations and Future Planning

According to the Ministry’s official statement, data from March 5 indicated that Indian carriers managed to conduct 40 inbound flights from West Asia, transporting a total of 7,205 passengers. The cumulative number of passengers arriving from this region has reached 14,992. Additionally, the ministry outlined plans for 51 flights to operate on March 6, again depending on operational feasibility and regional conditions.

Airfare Regulations Under Review

The Ministry of Civil Aviation continues to maintain communication with airlines to monitor ticket prices closely, aiming to prevent any unreasonable increases during this challenging time for air travel.
