Mukul Choudhary Reflects on His Journey After LSG’s Thrilling Victory

The CSR Journal Magazine

Mukul Choudhary, a batter for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), shared insights into his cricketing journey following a remarkable three-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in an IPL 2026 match at Eden Gardens. After securing the Player of the Match award with an unbeaten 54 runs, Choudhary discussed the challenges he faced early in his career. He revealed that his father had dreamt of seeing him play cricket even before his marriage. Despite facing financial difficulties initially, Choudhary began his cricketing journey at the age of 12 or 13. Growing up in Jhunjhunu, where cricket academies were limited, he later relocated to Jaipur to pursue his passion more seriously.

Adapting to the Game

Choudhary emphasized the importance of adapting to the evolving landscape of cricket. He noted, “I recognized the rapid growth of T20 cricket, which prompted me to move to Gurgaon (now Gurugram) where I trained for three to four months.” This strategic move helped him improve his skills in a format gaining immense popularity. Reflecting on a key moment in his career, Choudhary mentioned an Under-19 match against Uttar Pradesh, where his performance indicated potential for his future in the sport. He recounted how his father realized his talent following this match, which served as a significant turning point.

Pressure as an Opportunity

On the subject of handling high-pressure situations, Choudhary expressed his viewpoint of treating pressure as an opportunity rather than a burden. He stated, “Pressure is always there, but God has given us this opportunity, and I try to do what I can. I see it as an opportunity instead of succumbing to pressure.” His strategy during the close finish of the match was to remain at the crease until the end to help guide his team to victory. He described his focus on waiting for the right ball, which he believed would present itself, emphasizing that his goal was to secure the win.

Match Highlights

In the thrilling match, LSG managed to chase down a target of 182 runs with a last-ball victory against KKR, ultimately achieving a total of 184 in a gripping encounter. Alongside Choudhary, Ayush Badoni also contributed significantly, scoring 54 runs. The duo’s partnership was crucial, with Choudhary’s explosive finish ensuring that they crossed the line in the final over. This stand was noteworthy as it marked the highest partnership for the eighth wicket or lower in a successful IPL chase, according to CricViz. Of the 54 runs they secured, Choudhary made 52 runs, with Avesh Khan supporting him with 1 run off 3 balls.

KKR’s Innings

Earlier in the match, Kolkata Knight Riders set a target of 181 runs, bolstered by notable performances from Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 41 runs, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, with 45 runs. A late flourish from Rovman Powell and Cameron Green added further runs to their total. Despite KKR’s bowlers delivering tight spells to restrict LSG for a significant portion of the innings, Choudhary and his team maintained their composure, eventually clinching a dramatic victory that underlines the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket.
