Mojtaba Khamenei Expresses Gratitude to Iraqis Amid Health Speculations

The CSR Journal Magazine

Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, has extended his thanks to the Iraqi populace and religious leaders for their support during challenging times, as reported by Iranian state media. This message, communicated on a recent Sunday, has added to the ongoing speculation regarding his health and current location. Khamenei’s statement comes just days after U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that the newly appointed leader may be deceased or in a critical state due to recent military actions by the U.S.

During a press briefing, President Trump claimed that Iran’s military command and defense framework had been dismantled. He specifically mentioned Mojtaba Khamenei’s extended silence as an indication that he might no longer be alive. Trump stated, “Their leaders are dead. Their supreme leader is no longer supreme. He’s dead. His son is either dead or in very bad shape, because nobody’s heard from him.”

The Iranian authorities have yet to release any visual confirmation regarding Khamenei’s condition, and the recent message directed to Iraq did not offer clarification on the method of communication. Mojtaba Khamenei ascended to the position of supreme leader on March 9 following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, due to a U.S.-Israeli strike. Since assuming this significant role, he has not made a public appearance.

Throughout this time, the statements attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei—including his first address on March 12 and an address for Nowruz on March 20—have all been disseminated in written format and presented on state television.

This prolonged absence from the public eye has sparked considerable debate among diplomatic and intelligence communities regarding who is currently in control of decision-making processes within Tehran, particularly in light of escalating tensions in the region. Reports suggest that this issue has been included in President Trump’s intelligence briefings, with U.S. officials actively evaluating the hierarchical structure within Iran’s leadership.

The mystery surrounding Mojtaba Khamenei’s whereabouts has intensified, especially as several high-ranking Iranian officials have been targeted and eliminated in strikes attributed to Israel. This has raised further inquiries about whether the new supreme leader is in hiding, sustaining severe injuries, or intentionally refraining from public exposure due to security risks.
