On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 19th installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana in Bhagalpur, Bihar, distributing Rs 22,000 crore directly to farmers through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme. The money will reach the bank accounts of over 9.8 crore farmers across the country.
The PM Kisan scheme, launched in 2019, provides ₹6,000 annually to eligible farmers, disbursed in three installments of ₹2,000 each. This initiative has greatly benefitted small farmers by directly supporting their agricultural needs, allowing them to access markets more effectively, reduce costs, and increase their income. So far, more than ₹3.46 lakh crore has been credited to over 11 crore farmer families through the scheme.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Acknowledges The Scheme

During the event, Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also acknowledged the positive impact of the PM Kisan Yojana. Kumar expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for supporting farmers in Bihar, with over 76,000 farmers in the state set to benefit from this installment.
The scheme’s official website reminds farmers to complete their e-KYC to qualify for the payment, which can be done online or through biometric verification at local CSC centers. In addition, the government made it mandatory for new applicants to obtain a farmer ID for enrollment into the program.

PM Modi Shows Optimism Towards the Scheme

Prime Minister Modi also noted that nearly Rs 3.5 lakh crore has been credited to farmers’ accounts under the scheme since its launch. He stressed that this initiative has empowered farmers and enhanced the growth of India’s agricultural sector.
Ahead of Bihar’s upcoming assembly elections, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) continues to highlight welfare schemes like PM Kisan as key achievements. Additionally, in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced Rs 475 crore for 20.87 lakh farmers, marking a 10% increase over the last installment.
