Mercedes-Benz is poised to unveil the GLC Electric in India on November 4, 2026. This new electric SUV will be assembled locally at the company’s Chakan facility in Pune. The initial bookings for the GLC Electric are anticipated to commence in the first week of October, providing potential buyers the opportunity to secure their vehicle ahead of the launch.

Powertrain Specifications and Performance

The GLC Electric will be initially available in the 400 4MATIC version within the Indian market. This model is equipped with a 94kWh NMC battery pack supported by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. The combined output from the electric motors is rated at 360kW, translating to 489bhp and a torque of 800Nm. The vehicle is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 4.3 seconds and boasts a top speed of 210 km/h.

Mercedes-Benz asserts that the GLC Electric offers a WLTP range of up to 715km. However, the range may vary between 568km and 715km, depending on various configurations and environmental conditions. It features an 800-volt electrical architecture and is compatible with DC fast charging at a rate of up to 330kW. This configuration allows the battery to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 22 minutes, with the ability to add a range of up to 305km in a mere 10 minutes under optimal charging circumstances.

In addition, AC charging capabilities support up to 11kW as standard, while a 22kW charging option will be offered. These features position the GLC Electric as a noteworthy option for electric vehicle enthusiasts in India.

Dimensions and Interior Features

The GLC Electric measures 4,845mm in length, 1,913mm in width, and 1,644mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,972mm. Compared to its combustion-engine counterpart, this model features a wheelbase that is 84mm longer, enhancing rear legroom by an additional 47mm. Furthermore, the vehicle provides a boot space of 570 litres, expandable to 1,740 litres with the rear seats folded down. An additional 128-litre front luggage compartment adds practicality, while the kerb weight is set at 2,535kg.

The GLC Electric is also capable of towing loads of up to 2.4 tonnes, with a permissible drawbar load of 100kg, making it a versatile choice for various activities.

A standout feature of the GLC Electric is the inclusion of the MBUX Hyperscreen, a 99.3cm (39.1-inch) seamless display that integrates various elements such as the digital instrument cluster, central infotainment screen, and passenger display. This model employs the fourth-generation MBUX system, incorporating artificial intelligence technology developed in collaboration with Microsoft and Google.

Advanced Technology and Safety Features

The GLC Electric also comes equipped with AIRMATIC air suspension, which includes intelligent suspension control. An optional rear-wheel steering system allows the rear wheels to turn by up to 4.5 degrees, reducing the vehicle’s turning circle. The innovative One-Box braking system integrates both regenerative and friction braking, with regenerative braking capable of delivering approximately 300kW across four recuperation levels.

In terms of safety and driver assistance, the GLC Electric features the MB.DRIVE system, which utilises data from ten external cameras, five radar sensors, and twelve ultrasonic sensors. Depending on the specifications and market, this system offers various functions such as adaptive cruise control and lane-change assistance, among others. Additional features include advanced ambient lighting and an optional Vegan Package with certified interior materials.

With its local assembly, impressive powertrain, and claimed range, the GLC Electric is expected to play a pivotal role in Mercedes-Benz’s electric vehicle offerings in India when it becomes available for purchase in November.
