Renault Duster Hybrid Launched in India, Priced Rs 16.99-19.49 Lakh

The CSR Journal Magazine

Renault India has introduced the Duster Hybrid in the Indian market, entering the strong-hybrid segment with a starting price of Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This vehicle competes against the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The Duster Hybrid’s price range extends up to Rs 19.49 lakh, positioning it competitively within the segment.

The Maruti Suzuki Victoris holds the lowest starting price among these models at Rs 16.43 lakh. Following closely, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara commence at Rs 16.68 lakh and Rs 18.71 lakh, respectively. At the higher end of the price spectrum, the Victoris is the most expensive, reaching Rs 19.99 lakh, which is matched by the Hyryder. The Grand Vitara’s top price is slightly lower at Rs 19.77 lakh, making the Duster Hybrid’s maximum price of Rs 19.49 lakh the most economical option among the upper tiers of these competitors.

Engine Specifications and Performance Analysis

The Renault Duster Hybrid is equipped with a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that works in conjunction with an electric motor. This combined powertrain delivers an output of 160bhp, which is the highest among its competitors. The petrol engine contributes 110bhp and 175Nm of torque, while the electric motor adds 50bhp and 208Nm. The vehicle is paired with an eight-speed DHT gearbox and features a 1.4kWh battery.

In contrast, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Victoris, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are powered by a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that also pairs with an electric motor. Their total system output is rated at 115bhp, with the petrol engine producing 91bhp and 122Nm of torque, while the electric motor generates 77.8bhp and 141Nm. All three competitors utilise an e-CVT transmission, with the Grand Vitara and Hyryder featuring a 0.6kWh battery, while the Victoris employs a slightly larger 0.76kWh unit.

The Duster Hybrid’s output of 160bhp provides a significant advantage of 45bhp over its rivals. Additionally, it boasts a larger petrol engine and a higher-capacity battery, although it should be noted that battery capacity alone does not dictate overall efficiency or electric driving performance.

Fuel Efficiency Comparison Among the Models

The Renault Duster Hybrid claims a fuel efficiency of 29kmpl, placing it at the forefront of its category. Following the Duster Hybrid, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris offers a fuel efficiency of 28.65kmpl. Both the Grand Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder deliver a slightly lower efficiency of 27.97kmpl each. These figures indicate that the Duster Hybrid holds a competitive edge in terms of fuel efficiency, particularly over the Grand Vitara and Hyryder.

While the Duster Hybrid presents a narrow advantage over the Victoris, the gap widens when compared to the Grand Vitara and Hyryder. It is essential to note that real-world mileage can vary significantly based on driving conditions, traffic patterns, and individual driving styles.

In summary, the Renault Duster Hybrid emerges as a strong contender in the hybrid SUV segment, offering competitive pricing, superior engine performance, and impressive fuel efficiency compared to its rivals.
