Child Dragged from Play Area
According to reports, the victim is identified as D. Lemoria a 2.5-year-old girl. She was allegedly playing near her house with her cousin. During this time, Sanjay, a close relative, approached the kids. He then took the child to the backyard.
Once reached at a secluded spot he allegedly used a knife to sever the child’s head. According to police, the knife was already present in the backyard. Sanjay acted alone in the horrific act, said the police. After committing the crime, he walked away casually with the severed head. He disposed of the head of the child in a pond before fleeing the scene.
Discovery of the mutilated body
Hours later, Lemoria’s 13-year-old cousin first discovered the girl’s mutilated body and alerted the family. The police were immediately informed. The police promptly launched a search operation to find the head of the child. The Police then took help from the Fire and Rescue Services.
After immense search the authorities recovered both the body and the head. The remains of the child were immediately sent for post-mortem to the Paramakudi Government Hospital.

Following this, Sanjay was arrested within hours of the crime. He is currently in custody. Ramanathapuram Superintendent of Police, G. Chandeesh, confirmed that the suspect is undergoing treatment for bipolar disorder.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the accused has bipolar disorder and was under medication. We are providing all necessary medical and legal support to handle the situation. The suspect is in custody for further questioning but seems mentally unstable while answering,” SP Chandeesh said.
Family and Community in Shock
