Modi’s Recognition of Italy PM’s Milestone

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Meloni on her historic achievement, noting her status as the longest continuously serving prime minister after World War II. Modi remarked that this milestone is indicative of the faith and trust the Italian populace has in her leadership abilities.

Having assumed office on October 22, 2022, Meloni officially became Italy’s longest-serving prime minister after reaching 1,413 uninterrupted days in the role. She is also notable for being the first woman to occupy this position in Italy’s history.

In a message shared on X, Modi highlighted the significance of Meloni’s achievement, offering his best wishes for her future endeavours. He also pointed to her supportive friendship as a crucial factor in bolstering the India-Italy Special Strategic Partnership, expressing a desire for ongoing collaboration aimed at mutual prosperity.

It is noteworthy that Modi himself achieved the status of India’s longest continuously serving elected prime minister on June 10, 2026, after marking 4,399 consecutive days in office. This parallel underscores the growing significance of leadership continuity in both nations and their dedication to strengthening bilateral ties.
