Mamata Banerjee Alleges ‘Outsiders’ Being Added to Voter List, Targets EC at Nanur Rally

The CSR Journal Magazine

At a high-voltage public rally in Nanur, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the voter list revision process, alleging that “outsiders” were being added to the electoral rolls through Form 6 applications. Addressing the gathering, Banerjee claimed that the Supreme Court of India had taken a firm stand against such practices.

“They were bringing in outsiders using Form 6. The Supreme Court has delivered a sound verdict. I am happy today. The Court has made it clear that such practices will not be tolerated,” she said. Questioning the role of the Election Commission of India, the Chief Minister alleged selective deletion of names from voter lists.

“Names were being removed selectively—as if they were picking out lice. I personally moved the Supreme Court and got 2.2 million names reinstated,” she claimed, adding that further legal appeals would be filed to restore more names.
Urging people not to be intimidated, Banerjee said her government would bear the costs of legal proceedings, asking citizens to reapply if their names were under judicial scrutiny.

Political attack on BJP

Taking aim at the BJP, Banerjee asserted that attempts to influence the voter base would not succeed. “Everyone here belongs to Bengal. No matter how many outsiders you bring in, the BJP’s tally will remain zero. Observers do not vote—the people do,” she remarked.

She also accused authorities of overburdening election workers, claiming that over 225 people had died due to excessive work pressure. “How many more lives will you claim?” she asked.

The Chief Minister also criticised the Central Government over rising fuel prices and the ongoing crisis in West Asia. “Once elections are over, you won’t get gas cylinders, petrol or diesel. You will be forced to return to wood-fired stoves,” she warned, alleging repeated hikes in fuel prices.

She further accused the Centre of undermining democratic values, stating, “They have sold off the Constitution and democracy.”
