The Miranda House College of Delhi University has issued a legal notice to the makers of the Amazon Prime series ‘Ziddi Girls’ bearing resemblance to the college. The series portrays a fictional institution ‘Matilda House’ (MH), which indirectly portrays the girl’s college of Delhi University.
The notice sent by Delhi University’s empanelled lawyer has demanded that the trailer of the show be edited again to eliminate the short form reference ‘MH’. The notice also urges that the college administration, along with the student union, be allowed a preview of the series before its release scheduled for February 27.
Shonali Bose Directed Series
The Amazon series, ‘Ziddi Girls’ is directed by Shonali Bose, an alumnus of Miranda House. Her series is set in a Delhi college named Matilda House, which follows the lives of the institute and its female students. The first trailer of the series had objectional content concerning the depiction of women and the institution. Even though the makers released a revised trailer, the remenants of the first trailer still remain online. This prompted the college to insist on its complete removal.
While the makers of the series have tried to maintain that the show is fictional, students and alumni decided to take legal action by forming an eighth-member committee led by principal Professor Bajayalakshmi Nanda. The committee also seeks participation from student representatives.
