The CSR Journal Magazine

This is the second significant gold seizure by the BSF in this area within the last one week, highlighting the paramilitary force’s continuous vigilance against cross-border smuggling.

Apprehension Details and Location

Acting on specific intelligence, troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) South Bengal Frontier successfully apprehended two Indian smugglers at the Ghojadanga checkpost, an international border outpost of the 102nd Battalion in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The smugglers were caught attempting to cross the checkpoint by concealing 20 illegal gold biscuits within the cabin of a truck.

The operation resulted in the seizure of gold weighing 2332.845 grams with an estimated market value of ₹3,02,10,343/- (over ₹3 crore).

The Interception

The breakthrough occurred on November 30th, around 4 p.m. The BSF troops at the Ghojadanga border outpost received a critical tip-off that two Indian nationals intended to smuggle illegal gold from Bangladesh using a truck and cross the Ghojadanga checkpost.

Taking the information seriously, the BSF raised the alert level. Shortly after, the suspicious truck arrived. A subsequent thorough search led to the discovery of a cleverly concealed packet inside the truck’s cabin. The BSF seized the gold biscuits, apprehended both individuals, and impounded the vehicle.

Smugglers’ Interrogation

The two smugglers, residents of the North 24 Parganas district who identified themselves as laborers and a driver working at a brick kiln, were taken to the Ghojadanga border outpost for questioning.

During the interrogation, they confessed that an unknown person had handed the gold to them. Their task was to deliver it to another person after successfully crossing the Ghojadanga checkpost, in exchange for a sum of money. The BSF intervention prevented them from completing the smuggling operation.

Seizure and Further Action

The total weight of the seized gold biscuits is confirmed to be 2332.845 grams, with an approximate value of ₹3,02,10,342.75/-.

Both apprehended smugglers, along with the seized gold and the truck, have been handed over to the concerned government department for necessary legal action.
