Karnataka Teacher Brutally Drags, Slaps, and Kicks Student for Using Phone, Arrested

The CSR Journal Magazine

A Sanskrit teacher at the Sri Guru Tippeswamy Temple’s residential Veda school in Nayakanahatti, Karnataka, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a student after he used a mobile phone to contact his grandmother. The teacher, identified as Veeresh Hiremath, was filmed thrashing the nine-year-old boy, Tarun, before pinning him to the ground and kicking him, despite the child pleading for mercy.

The incident, which reportedly occurred eight months ago, came to light after a video of the assault went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage. In the footage, Hiremath is seen continuing the attack even after the child’s hand was injured. The victim later left the school after taking a Transfer Certificate.

Video Viral

Following the viral video, the temple’s executive officer filed a formal complaint, prompting the Nayakanahatti Police to take action. Police arrested Hiremath in Kalaburagi, and a search operation was launched to track him down after he went missing shortly after the complaint was filed. The case has drawn significant public attention, with local parents staging protests outside the school demanding strict action against the teacher.

Child Welfare Reacts

Karnataka’s Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Laxmi Hebbalkar, condemned the incident and assured that stringent measures would be taken against Hiremath. She also instructed authorities to submit a detailed report of the incident at the earliest.

“I have just learnt about this deeply disturbing incident from Nayakanahatti, where a school student was subjected to brutal assault by a teacher. No one should ever be treated in such a manner, especially not children. I will personally look into this case and ensure that strict action is taken against the person found guilty. I have also directed the officials of my department to submit a detailed report on the incident at the earliest,” she said.

Another Assault Case Surfaces in Bengaluru

In a similar case, authorities have filed a case against a private school in Sunkadakatte, Bengaluru, after a Class 5 student was allegedly beaten by the principal and teachers. On October 14, the boy was reportedly assaulted with a PVC pipe and locked in a room for being absent for two days. Police have since questioned the principal, who has been granted bail.

Public Outrage and Swift Action

The brutal assault of the student in Nayakanahatti has led to widespread outrage among parents and the public, with calls for justice growing louder. The case is being closely monitored by authorities, and strict action is expected. Minister Hebbalkar emphasized that such acts of violence against children would not be tolerated.
