Pathan Khan, a resident of Jaisalmer has been arrested by Rajasthan Intelligence for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). A case has been registered against accused Pathan Khan under the Official Secrets Act, 1923.
Pathan Khan’s arrest comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack last week, which claimed the lives of 26 Indian nationals. The responsibility for the attack was initially claimed by Pakistan-based organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba’s wing The Resistance Front (TRF).

As per an official release, authorities stated that the accused Pathan Khan visited Pakistan in 2013 and came in contact with officers of the Intelligence Agency of Pakistan. In Pakistan, Khan was offered a good amount of money for delivering information about India and was even trained on espionage.
Even after 2013, he continued meeting Pakistan Intelligence Agency officers by visiting the country from time to time and kept sharing sensitive and confidential information related to the Jaisalmer International Border with Pakistan handlers.
ISI spy arrested amid India-Pak tensions post Pahalgam terror attack
Pathan Khan’s arrest comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack last week, which claimed the lives of 26 Indian nationals.
The responsibility for the attack was initially claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be a proxy for Pakistan-based organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). TRF has withdrawn its earlier claim and says that it was made during an online breach. India, however, has taken decisive steps against Pakistan for sponsoring terrorism.
Meanwhile, amid mounting tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, villagers who live near the international border in Rajasthan are bracing for all possibilities and say they are ready to provide all assistance to the Indian Army.
UN Chief contacts India, Pakistan, condemns terror attack
Earlier this week, United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres dialled External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif separately and strongly condemned the incident of terror attack.
Guterres expressed deep concern at the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, and highlighted the need to avoid a confrontation that could lead to tragic consequences.
“I just want to update you on the Secretary General’s phone calls this morning. In his phone calls, the Secretary General reiterated his strong condemnation of the April 22 terrorist attack that took place in Jammu and Kashmir. The Secretary General noted the importance of pursuing justice and accountability for these attacks through lawful means. The Secretary General offered his good offices to support any de-escalation efforts,” Stéphane Dujarric, Guterres’ spokesperson said at the daily press briefing on Tuesday.
UN contacted the two countries at a time when Pakistan claims it has “credible intelligence” regarding India’s plans to launch military action against them within the next 24-36 hours.
