The CSR Journal Magazine

During a recent discussion, Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, emphasised that establishing peace in the Strait of Hormuz is crucial for enhancing regional security. Gharibabadi, in an interview with ANI, stated that the situation would significantly improve once calm is achieved in the area. He asserted that transparent communication and adherence to international law would prevail in a peaceful environment.

Gharibabadi pointed out the importance of diplomacy in resolving tensions but noted that the United States is allegedly not engaging in serious diplomatic efforts. He claimed that without mindful negotiation, achieving stability remains a challenge, and he expressed his belief that peace would elevate safety levels in the region.

Iran’s Position on BRICS and Regional Relations

In his conversation, Gharibabadi also conveyed Iran’s support for India’s leadership role within the BRICS framework. Ahead of the upcoming BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting to be hosted by India, he highlighted the necessity of a united front among member countries. He stated, “We are in favour of having the BRICS Declaration,” underscoring Iran’s desire for the summit to foster unity rather than divisiveness.

He further critiqued the actions of a specific neighbouring country, which he claimed is promoting a narrative that condemns Iran. Gharibabadi firmly denied allegations of Iranian aggression against its neighbours, asserting that these regions have aligned with foreign interests instead of pursuing independent policies. He maintained that Iran has not launched attacks and referenced documented incidents of aggression against Iran, intending to present these findings to the United Nations.

The recent BRICS Deputy Foreign Ministers and Special Envoys meeting on issues relating to the Middle East and North Africa concluded without consensus, resulting in a Chair’s Summary. This document reflected member states’ deep concerns regarding the escalating conflicts in the region and included various perspectives and assessments.

Addressing Military Concerns

Gharibabadi also discussed Iran’s military capabilities, suggesting that while the nation does not possess highly sophisticated weaponry, it has effectively deterred threats through its missile technology. He asserted that Iranian defences have outperformed those of the US and Israel in confrontations, indicating a sense of national pride in the country’s military advancements.

In his remarks, Gharibabadi pointed out that international discourse should focus on building dialogue and understanding rather than fostering conflict. He stressed that establishing peace is not only beneficial for Iran but vital for the entire region’s future stability and prosperity. The Deputy Foreign Minister’s statements reflect Iran’s broader strategic vision as it navigates complex geopolitical landscapes.

Overall, the conversation outlined Iran’s commitment to regional diplomacy and underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in international fora such as BRICS. Gharibabadi’s remarks resonate with the nation’s efforts to position itself as a stabilising force amidst a backdrop of escalating tensions and discord within the Middle East.
