IndiGo Airlines to Adhere to New Pilot-Rest Duty Regulations Starting Today

The CSR Journal Magazine

IndiGo Airlines has announced that, effective today, it will operate its flights in accordance with newly established flight duty duty regulations for its pilots. This decision follows the expiration of a temporary exemption granted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) that allowed the airline to overlook specific flight duty time limitations for its Airbus A320 pilots.

The exemption was initially provided in early December 2025 to aid the airline in recovering from significant disruptions in its flight schedule.

Details of the Exemption

The DGCA had issued the exemption on December 5, 2025, acknowledging the severe impact on IndiGo’s services during the initial days of that month. This temporary measure was aimed at stabilizing the airline’s operations and ensuring passenger safety and comfort. The exemption was strictly limited, remaining valid only until February 10, 2026.

IndiGo’s Preparedness for Compliance

In a statement issued by the DGCA, it was noted that IndiGo had communicated its readiness to fully comply with the mandatory flight duty time regulations upon the expiration of the exemptions. The airline has assured that it is taking all necessary steps, including operational management, pilot rostering, and monitoring systems, to align with the approved flight duty time limit scheme starting today.

Monitoring and Oversight During the Exemption Period

The DGCA’s statement elaborated that the exemptions were subject to various conditions, including the requirement for IndiGo to submit hourly flight operations data and regular reports on its operational performance. Throughout the exemption period, the airline’s operations were closely monitored through frequent reviews with DGCA officials, who were deployed at multiple airports to oversee the handling of passengers and mitigate any inconveniences.

Additionally, the DGCA stationed Flight Operations Inspectors at IndiGo’s Operations Control Centre for real-time supervision of flight activities, ensuring a continuous regulatory framework during the exemption timeline.
