Vivo Launches X Fold 6, Competing in the Foldable Phone Market

The CSR Journal Magazine

Vivo has introduced the X Fold 6 in India today, presenting a fresh contender in the folding smartphone arena. This model adopts a traditional design, maintaining a long and narrow profile compared to the wider formats seen in recent offerings from competitors like Apple and Samsung. The X Fold 6 upholds the design principles of its predecessor, the X Fold 5, thereby demonstrating Vivo’s adherence to the principle of “if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.”

The device is constructed from a blend of high-quality glass and metal, granting it both durability and an attractive finish. It also boasts an IP59 ingress protection rating, ensuring some resistance against dust and water. The smartphone features an 8.02-inch inner folding display accompanied by a 6.51-inch outer cover screen, both utilising LTPO AMOLED technology, which supports a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz for enhanced smoothness during usage.

Incorporating the flagship Dimensity 9500 chip from MediaTek, Vivo has branded this chip as a “super edition,” suggesting an innovative collaboration aimed at optimising its performance. This strategic partnership is likened to Samsung’s practice with Qualcomm on its Galaxy Z Fold series, enhancing the overall user experience.

Camera Capabilities

For photography enthusiasts, the X Fold 6 is equipped with an impressive triple camera configuration on the rear. The setup includes a 200-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and an f1.68 wide lens, alongside two 50-megapixel sensors. One of these is combined with a 3x periscope lens featuring an f2.57 aperture and OIS, while the other pairs with a 15mm f2.05 lens for ultra-wide shots.

Vivo has also collaborated with Zeiss for lens tuning, incorporating advanced technologies, including T-star coating. This feature serves to reduce glare and ghosting, particularly beneficial for low-light situations. Additionally, there are two 20-megapixel cameras, one positioned on the external cover screen and the other embedded within the internal display, facilitating versatile photography options.

As for power, the X Fold 6 houses a robust 6,900mAh battery. It supports 80W fast wired charging and 40W wireless charging, underscoring Vivo’s commitment to providing a premium user experience through quick and efficient charging solutions.

Pricing and Availability

The Vivo X Fold 6 is priced at Rs 2,19,999 for the configuration featuring 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. It will be available in two colour options: black and teal. Consumers can expect general availability of the device starting from October 13.

This launch reinforces Vivo’s position in the competitive landscape of foldable smartphones, aiming to deliver high-end specifications and features that cater to a wide range of users. As the foldable phone market continues to evolve, Vivo’s offerings may set a benchmark for future innovations in this segment.

With its substantial feature set and competitive pricing, the X Fold 6 is poised to appeal to tech enthusiasts looking for cutting-edge technology in a stylish package. Its launch not only expands Vivo’s product range but also responds to growing consumer interest in foldable devices.
