Triumph Unveils Bonneville T40 and T40 Black Featuring 350cc Engine

The CSR Journal Magazine

Triumph has announced the launch of the Bonneville T40 and T40 Black, marking a significant addition to its 350cc motorcycle range. Both models are designed to combine the legendary retro aesthetics typical of the Bonneville lineage with contemporary technological features, ensuring compatibility with modern rider preferences.

The motorcycles are equipped with a dedicated 350cc engine that is liquid-cooled and single-cylinder, optimised for performance. Notably, the powertrain delivers an impressive output of 29bhp at 7,000rpm and achieves peak torque of 31.2Nm at 5,500rpm. Triumph has reportedly tuned the engine to enhance low-end torque and provide a more relaxed power delivery.

Additionally, both models incorporate several riding modes, including Road, Rain, and Eco, along with two customisable settings. These modes adjust various parameters like throttle response and traction control, ensuring a flexible riding experience suited to different conditions.

Design Elements of the Bonneville T40

The Bonneville T40 embodies classic styling cues that resonate with the heritage of the larger Bonneville models. The bike features a sculpted teardrop fuel tank, a round LED headlamp integrated with daytime running lights (DRLs), extended mudguards, and a peashooter-style exhaust system. Additionally, twin rear shocks and traditional spoked wheels maintain the vintage appeal.

Wheel specifications include an 18-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, both utilising aluminium rims with steel spokes. Features such as classically styled front forks and a ribbed bench seat further enhance its retro charm. Triumph has introduced a selection of three two-tone colour options for the T40, each complemented by hand-painted coach lining.

The T40 Black variant adopts a darker aesthetic, available in Matt Pewter Grey and Matt Phantom Black. This model features blacked-out components, along with gloss-black aluminium rims furnished with bright steel spokes, thus catering to those who prefer a more subdued look.

Advanced Electronics and Rider Assistance Features

Despite its traditional design, the Bonneville T40 is equipped with a modern electronics suite. The motorcycle boasts a 4-inch circular full-colour TFT display nestled within a classic-style instrument housing. An optional Heritage Mode provides an analogue-style appearance for the display, allowing riders to experience a nostalgic touch.

The TFT display offers smartphone connectivity, enabling users to control music, answer calls, and navigate using Triumph’s Navigation App. This app supports route planning, waypoint addition, destination saving, and GPX file import. Further features include five customisable widgets, self-cancelling indicators, an Emergency Deceleration Warning, and a USB-C charging socket for added convenience.

The Bonneville T40 also incorporates full-LED lighting, thus enhancing visibility and safety, along with a distinctive DRL signature that adds to its retro-modern blend.

Rider Comfort and Compliance

Triumph has emphasised the accessibility of the T40, evident in its upright riding position and a seat height set at 790mm, which can be lowered to 770mm with an optional seat. The motorcycle weighs 191kg, making it relatively manageable for various riders.

Standard features include a centre stand and upper engine protection bars for additional safety. The motorcycles are compliant with A2 licence regulations and offer a service interval of 10,000 miles (16,000km), ensuring convenience for maintenance.

The Bonneville T40 and T40 Black join a broader portfolio that already includes models like the Speed 400 and Thruxton 400. However, specific pricing details and launch timelines for the Indian market have yet to be disclosed.
