Indian Table Tennis Pairs Harmeet-Yashaswini, Manush-Diya Reach Mixed Doubles Quarter-Finals

The Indian table tennis pairs consisting of Harmeet Desai with Yashaswini Ghorpade and Manush Shah alongside Diya Chitale have successfully advanced to the mixed doubles quarter-finals at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. These achievements were marked by notable performances in their respective Round 3 encounters held on September 23, 2026.

In a commanding display, the duo of Manush and Diya triumphed over Ahmed Moosa and Aishath Nazim from the Maldives. The Indian pair secured a swift victory with a score of 3-0, winning each game decisively with scores of 11-0, 11-7, and 11-6 within a mere 15 minutes, as reported by ESPN.

Meanwhile, Harmeet and Yashaswini faced off against Yiu Kwan To and Ng Wing Lam from Hong Kong, China, emerging victorious with a score of 3-1. Their match showcased a competitive spirit, with the games concluding at 11-6, 11-5, 10-12, and 11-7. These victories solidify India’s standing in table tennis as both pairs move forward in the tournament.

India’s Medal Progress in Asian Games

India’s success in table tennis adds to the nation’s overall performance at the Asian Games, with the medal tally standing at ten. This includes one gold medal each in cricket, soft tennis, and mixed martial arts, along with a significant seven medals in shooting events. As of now, India ranks eighth on the medal table, while China leads with an impressive 60 medals.

On the same day, India’s shooting contingent contributed to the medal count, securing two bronze medals. The women’s skeet team, comprising Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal, and Maheshwari Chauhan, attained third place with a collective score of 331. Similarly, the men’s skeet team consisting of Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Mairaj Ahmed Khan, and Bhavtegh Singh Gill also clinched bronze after overcoming Kazakhstan in a shoot-off.

In another notable achievement for India, Jay Meena won the first-ever Asian Games medal in soft tennis, taking home the bronze in men’s singles after a semi-final defeat to Japan’s Takuya Kurosaka. This historic accomplishment underscores the growth of the sport within the country at an international level.

Other Sports Highlights from the Games

The Indian women’s kabaddi team had a strong showing against Iran, securing a decisive 37-23 victory in their Group A match. Meanwhile, boxer Ankush advanced in the men’s 80kg category, following a successful bout against Hamsa Vogel of Bahrain in the Round of 32.

In rowing, athlete Balraj Panwar qualified for the final in the men’s single sculls event. In addition, the team of Satnam Singh and Salman Khan progressed to the men’s double sculls final. Notably, India’s women’s four crew also secured a spot in Final A, demonstrating a strong performance across various water sports.

Furthermore, the men’s kayak four 500m team reached the finals, illustrating the depth of talent within India’s rowing segment. Megha Pradeep successfully qualified for the semi-finals in the women’s canoe single 200m, while the duo of Parvathy Geetha and Phairembam Soniya Devi advanced to the women’s kayak double 500m semi-final, showcasing the diverse capabilities of Indian athletes in varied disciplines.
