Amid an escalating war-like situation between the two neighbouring countries, several news reports claimed that India has launched an attack at Southern Pakistan’s Karachi Port. India downs Pakistani missiles, F16 jet and JF-17 fighter jets: Reports

Meanwhile, on Thursday India reportedly downed at least 8 missiles in Jammu and Kashmir and 30 missiles in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer and shot down Pakistani drones near border states. As per sources, a Pakistani F16 jet and two JF-17 fighter jets were shot down by India’s missile defence system.

The JF-17 is a lightweight, fourth-generation multirole fighter jet. Developed in collaboration between Pakistan and China, it was also used in previous military engagements between India and Pakistan. The PAF inducted the JF-17 Block III variant in 2023, and the fighter jet was fully operationalized in 2024. It has been compared with India’s homegrown fighter jet, LCA ‘Tejas,’ as both are single-engine, multi-role combat aircraft.

Air Defence system at Lahore neutralised

India also launched a counter-offensive with a drone attack on Lahore, disabling its defence system.

“On the night of 07-08 May 2025, Pakistan attempted to engage a number of military targets in Northern and Western India including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles. These were neutralised by the Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. The debris of these attacks is now being recovered from a number of locations that prove the Pakistani attacks.

Today morning Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan. Indian response has been in the same domain with same intensity as Pakistan. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised,” mentions a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence.
