The West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President, Samik Bhattacharya, has accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of losing public support. He claims that the current ruling party has failed to maintain the trust of the electorate, which has allegedly favoured the BJP’s governance approach. The BJP secured a significant two-thirds majority during the last elections, enabling the formation of a government that Bhattacharya asserts is representative of the people’s will.

In a recent statement, Bhattacharya remarked that there is public dissent against TMC leaders whenever they appear in public spaces, noting incidents where eggs have been thrown at them. His comments highlight a growing discontent towards the TMC, suggesting that the party’s popularity is waning among constituents.

He clarified that the BJP’s criticisms are primarily directed towards madrasa institutions operating illegally, rather than traditional educational centres. Bhattacharya reaffirmed that the party’s efforts focus on ensuring that such organisations adhere to the regulations set by the government.

Closure Notices Issued to Madrasas

In a significant move, the West Bengal government has reportedly issued closure notices to 252 madrasas as part of a review of educational institutions linked to Islamic studies. This decision reflects ongoing concerns about the legitimacy of these institutions and their operations within the state. Bhattacharya’s remarks came shortly after this government action was made public, indicating a concerted effort to regulate madrasa operations.

West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh elaborated on the government’s stance regarding madrasas, insisting that operations without government authorisation will not be tolerated. He emphasised that only those institutions that possess valid permits are allowed to function, indicating a strict regulatory framework aimed at resolving the issue surrounding illegal madrasa operations.

Ghosh remarked on the longstanding nature of concerns about madrasas, which he claimed have persisted for the past two decades. He reassured the public that the government is committed to finding a resolution to the challenges posed by unregistered establishments operating under the guise of educational institutions.

Government Initiatives in West Bengal

In addition to addressing issues related to madrasas, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari recently highlighted several notable development projects underway in the state. Among these projects is a substantial Rs 15,000 crore initiative aimed at enhancing the state’s infrastructure and economic growth. Adhikari stated that in the last four months, the government has initiated several significant undertakings that reflect its commitment to progress.

He mentioned the launch of a Rs 600 crore Amul facility, which is expected to bolster local dairy production and create employment opportunities in the region. Furthermore, the Chief Minister outlined advancements in a robotic fire-fighting system designed for areas that conventional fire services may find challenging to access.

Adhikari expressed optimism regarding the pace of progress being made on various projects, asserting that these initiatives represent a positive shift for West Bengal. He also indicated that the government is keen on addressing infrastructural needs and ensuring efficient emergency response mechanisms through innovative technological solutions.
