India Job Market to See Robust Growth in H2 FY27 Across Multiple Sectors

The CSR Journal Magazine

The hiring momentum in India is anticipated to gain strength during the second half of FY27, as indicated by findings from TeamLease Services. The report suggests that workforce expansion will be primarily driven by sectors such as e-commerce, technology startups, travel and hospitality, retail, and automotive along with electric vehicle infrastructure. A projected net employment change of 5.4 per cent highlights a positive outlook in these industries.

The survey, which encompassed responses from 1,239 employers across 23 industries and 20 cities conducted between July and August 2026, revealed that 60 per cent of surveyed employers plan to increase their workforce. In contrast, 24 per cent anticipate a reduction in headcount, while 16 per cent expect their numbers to remain unchanged.

Leading the anticipated growth, e-commerce and technology startups are expected to see a remarkable net employment change of 12.6 per cent. Travel and hospitality is close behind with 12.3 per cent, followed by retail at 10.3 per cent and automotive at 10.1 per cent.

Sector-Specific Hiring Trends Identified

Significant hiring activity is projected across various domains such as banking, logistics, fintech, construction and real estate, information technology, manufacturing, engineering, and energy sectors. The banking sector is expected to experience a 6.6 per cent net employment increase, while the information technology sector is predicted to achieve a 6.4 per cent change. Manufacturing, engineering, and infrastructure sectors are expected to follow closely with a 6.3 per cent rise.

Examining hiring by function, sales and marketing roles are said to have the most substantial demand. Sixty-four per cent of employers indicated intentions to expand headcount in these areas, while 50 per cent responded similarly for IT positions and 48 per cent for finance roles. Large enterprises are notably more optimistic, with 66 per cent indicating plans for workforce expansion.

This diverse range of hiring trends points to a positive trajectory for employment in these sectors, which are critical to the Indian economy.

Geographic Preferences for Workforce Expansion

Bengaluru has emerged as the top choice for workforce expansion, with 68 per cent of respondents identifying it as a key location. Hyderabad follows closely at 61 per cent, with Pune at 60 per cent, Mumbai at 55 per cent, and Delhi at 53 per cent. These data suggest a regional focus on urban centres that can support growing industries and startups.

The report also highlights that digital literacy remains a critical hiring requirement, with 59 per cent of employers prioritising this skill. Communication skills come next, with 51 per cent of employers indicating their importance, followed by teamwork and collaboration, valued by 48 per cent of respondents.

Additionally, TeamLease has identified several considerations for the workforce as the sector moves into H2 FY27. Notably, compliance costs associated with labour codes and the divide in AI adoption are highlighted as key challenges facing employers as they strategise for the future.
