Gurugram Sets Deadline of October 25 for Demolition of 31 RMC Plants

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has mandated the demolition of all thirty-one ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants operating within its jurisdiction by October 25. This directive is part of a broader initiative aimed at addressing air pollution, which is expected to worsen as the pollution season approaches. Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya issued this order during a review meeting held on Thursday, emphasising the necessity for pollution-control measures to be effectively implemented.

In his instructions, Dahiya directed the relevant Joint Commissioners to issue notices to the RMC plants and ensure that the demolition process is completed within the specified timeframe. The urgency of the directive reflects growing concerns regarding air quality in Gurugram, where various factors, including construction activities, road dust, and waste burning, contribute to elevated pollution levels.

Prohibition on Waste Burning and Heavy Penalties

In addition to the demolition of RMC plants, the Municipal Corporation has taken a firm stance against the burning of garbage and biomass, which includes horticultural waste. Field officials have been instructed to initiate criminal proceedings and impose substantial fines on those found burning waste. This measure is part of the corporation’s comprehensive strategy to mitigate pollution sources in the area.

The corporation has also mandated the immediate removal of horticultural waste and has implemented continuous monitoring of dumping sites to prevent fires and emissions. Construction sites are required to regularly sprinkle water to control dust, and builders or construction agencies that do not comply with these regulations will face punitive actions as per the corporation’s guidelines.

These measures underscore the civic body’s commitment to curbing pollution and ensuring compliance with environmental standards. The focus on waste management and construction site regulations aims to create a cleaner and healthier urban environment for residents.

Enhanced Road Cleaning and Monitoring Initiatives

The Municipal Corporation has announced plans for deep cleaning of roads to eliminate dust accumulation that can contribute to air pollution and smog formation. Water will be sprayed on trees and busy thoroughfares to help reduce particulate matter in the atmosphere. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance air quality in Gurugram.

Commissioner Dahiya has cautioned officials against any negligence in the execution of these measures and has mandated daily monitoring of progress. Officials are required to prepare and submit daily progress reports, with senior officers tasked with overseeing the implementation of these initiatives on the ground.

In attendance at the review meeting were Additional Municipal Commissioners Yash Jaluka, Kushal Kataria, and Dr Jayveer Yadav, along with zonal Joint Commissioners. Their involvement highlights the collaborative effort within the municipal organisation to tackle the pressing issue of air pollution in Gurugram.

Firm Timeline for Pollution Control Measures

The Municipal Corporation’s actions are aimed at addressing multiple sources of pollution, with the October 25 deadline serving as a definitive timeline for the demolition of all thirty-one RMC plants within the municipal limits. This initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to improving air quality and public health in Gurugram.

As the pollution season approaches, the urgency of these measures is evident. The corporation’s comprehensive strategy encompasses various aspects of pollution control, including waste management, construction regulations, and road cleaning, all aimed at fostering a cleaner urban environment.

The effectiveness of these initiatives will depend on strict adherence to the guidelines set forth by the Municipal Corporation, as well as active participation from the community and stakeholders involved in construction and waste management activities.
