Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, recently underwent a medical examination in jail amid escalating concerns about his health. This development was reported on Saturday, following his incarceration, which began in 2023 after his conviction in a corruption case. Khan is currently detained at the Adiala Jail, known for its high-security measures, located in Rawalpindi.

At 73 years old, Khan’s health has raised alarm among his supporters, who have claimed that inadequate medical care is contributing to his deteriorating condition. In response, prison authorities have denied these allegations, asserting that all necessary medical protocols are being followed.

Medical Team from PIMS Involved

According to reports, a specialised medical team from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) conducted the check-up on Khan. The examination included several essential assessments, such as blood pressure readings, cholesterol levels, and eye tests.

A physician from PIMS led the medical team, which also included healthcare personnel from the Adiala Jail hospital. This collaboration aimed to ensure that the examination was thorough and met the necessary medical standards.

Khan has previously expressed concerns regarding an eye condition, leading to multiple transfers to PIMS for treatment. There have been attempts to provide him with specialised care, although these have not always aligned with the Supreme Court’s directives.

Past Court Orders and Current Demands

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, which Khan leads, has been vocal in its calls for his transfer to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a complete medical evaluation and appropriate treatment. Supporters are worried about his health condition and have actively sought attention on this matter.

In addition to advocating for Khan’s transfer, the PTI has announced plans to stage a protest on September 27 to demand his release. This protest is seen as a continuation of the party’s efforts to address the legal and health concerns surrounding their leader, particularly following his ousting from office in April 2022 due to a no-confidence vote.
