‘How Long Will You Act?’ Taimur’s Question Gets Saif Ali Khan Talking About Work-Life Balance

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Saif Ali Khan has recently shared his thoughts on the challenges of balancing work and family life within the film industry. During a conversation with his sister, Soha Ali Khan, on her podcast, Saif shed light on how the dynamics of the industry have evolved, allowing actors to dedicate time to their families despite demanding shooting schedules.

He recounted a memorable moment when his son, Taimur Ali Khan, inquired about the longevity of his acting career, asking, “How much longer are you planning to do this for?” Saif responded with uncertainty, saying, “I don’t know, as long as I can! Forever, it is my job!” To this, his son reportedly expressed a desire for him to reconsider, highlighting a child’s perspective on parental availability.

Shifting Work Culture in the Film Industry

Soha pointed out that her nephew’s question likely stems from the reality that actors often spend extended periods away from home due to long shooting sessions. In response to this observation, Saif noted that the industry has gradually made strides toward adopting more organized schedules. This shift is seen as a means for actors to effectively manage their professional and personal commitments.

He explained that many of his colleagues are adept at structuring their day to maximize productivity while still being present for their families. “I can name a few people, colleagues and friends of mine in this industry who have balanced it well. They start work at 7 am. The camera rolls at 9 am and they get a lot of work done in a day as well as see their children in the evening before they sleep,” he elaborated.

Strategies for Maintaining Family Connections

Saif emphasized that achieving a balance between work and family time is feasible through careful planning and defined work hours. He suggested that intense periods of focused work, followed by time off, could greatly enhance an actor’s ability to maintain meaningful relationships with their children. This kind of schedule allows for both professional success and the opportunity to be present for family moments, a critical aspect that many in the industry strive for.

Latest Projects and Future Endeavors

Currently, Saif Ali Khan is focusing on his upcoming projects. He was last seen alongside actor Jaideep Ahlawat in the Netflix original film “Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins,” directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal. Looking ahead, audiences can expect to see him in the film “Haiwaan,” directed by Priyadarshan, which will reunite him with fellow actor Akshay Kumar, further adding to his diverse portfolio in the industry.
