A four-month marriage has been marred by tragedy after a chartered accountant was accused of murdering his pregnant wife in Jhajjar district, Haryana. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, leading to the arrest of the suspect, Anshul, who allegedly attempted to stage the crime as a robbery. Police reports indicate that Anshul confessed during intensive questioning.

Details of the Incident

The victim, identified as Mehak, was a bank employee who was two months pregnant at the time of her death. The couple, who married in 2025, had recently celebrated Valentine’s Day together. The fatal incident unfolded as Anshul was driving Mehak from her parental home in Hansi to their residence in Gurugram. The alleged murder took place near a village close to Badli.

Initial Claims of Robbery

Local authorities received a distress call on Dial 112, reporting that a newly married couple had been attacked and that the wife had been killed during a supposed robbery. Following the report, Mehak’s body was discovered near a canal. At the scene, Anshul claimed that unidentified assailants had stopped their vehicle, assaulted them, and then murdered his wife before fleeing with the car.

Inconsistencies in the Accused’s Account

However, investigators soon found discrepancies in Anshul’s narrative. According to Badli Station House Officer Suresh Kumar, Anshul attempted to mislead the investigation. After extensive interrogation, he reportedly broke down and confessed to the crime.

Admission of Premeditation

Authorities stated that Anshul admitted to premeditating the murder and had brought scissors to the scene. During questioning, he purportedly confessed that he initially strangled Mehak and subsequently cut her throat with the scissors. “He has confessed to the crime. The full sequence will be clear after police remand,” commented SHO Suresh Kumar at a press briefing.

Motive Behind the Crime

Investigators noted that suspicions regarding Mehak’s character could have been a motive behind the alleged murder. Police reported that Anshul objected to her frequent communications with colleagues at the bank, which may have fueled his actions.

Ongoing Investigations

An FIR has been registered following a complaint lodged by Mehak’s family. Anshul is expected to be produced in court, where authorities will seek remand for further interrogation in order to clarify the complete motive and the chain of events leading to the murder.

Family members have expressed their demands for stringent punishment for Anshul, while police have categorized the incident as a “premeditated” homicide that was initially misrepresented as a street crime.
