Haryana: BJP Wins 9 Of 10 Mayoral seats, Congress Loses Rohtak

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured victory in 9 out of 10 mayoral seats in the Haryana municipal elections. The results were announced on March 12, confirming the party’s stronghold in the state. However, the BJP suffered a setback in Manesar, where independent candidate Dr. Inderjeet Yadav defeated BJP’s Sunder Lal.

Congress Loses Rohtak

Meanwhile, the Congress party faced a second major electoral loss in just over a month. The party failed to win in Rohtak, a traditional stronghold of senior Congress leader Bhupinder Hooda. The BJP’s Ram Avatar Valmiki secured the Rohtak mayoral post with a margin of 45,198 votes.

Key Wins for BJP Across Major Cities

  1. Gurugram: Raj Rani defeated Congress’s Seema Pahuja by 1,79,485 votes.
  2. Hisar: Praveen Popli secured victory by a margin of 64,456 votes.
  3. Panipat: Komal Saini won with 1,62,075 votes.
  4. Karnal: Renu Bala Gupta emerged victorious with 83,630 votes.
  5. Sirsa: Shanti Swaroop won with a lead of 12,779 votes.
  6. Faridabad: Parveen Joshi maintained a comfortable lead.

Low Voter Turnout

Polling in Haryana took place on March 2 across multiple municipal corporations, councils, and municipalities. The voter turnout in Haryana was recorded at just 41% for this year’s elections. The percentage was comparatively lower than the 68% recorded in the last Haryana Assembly elections.
Following its defeat the Congress party now faces a major challenge of regaining its lost trust and ground in Haryana for the upcoming elections. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s landslide victory in Haryana has further solidified its grip on the political landscape.
