In a chilling incident from Padra taluka, Vadodara, a 17-year-old girl has been accused of plotting her father’s murder after he opposed her relationship with 24-year-old Ranjeet Vaghela. Police say the minor drugged her father, Shana Chavda, and watched as Ranjeet and his friend, Bhavya Mahesh Vasava (23), stabbed him to death inside his own home. The crime, described by authorities as meticulously planned, has left the local community stunned.

Multiple Failed Attempts Before the Murder

Police revealed that the teen had made multiple attempts to poison her parents before finally succeeding on the night of December 18. She reportedly mixed sleeping pills into her father’s food, causing him to fall unconscious. At around 2:30 a.m., Ranjeet and Bhavya entered the room and stabbed Shana Chavda multiple times. The minor allegedly observed the murder through a window, ensuring that her plan was carried out successfully.

“His daughter had been planning the murder for the last three months. This is a love affair, which her father was against. He had kept his daughter and his wife in one room at night. He used to lock them from outside after tying them up and kept the key with him,” Sushil Agarwal, Vadodara district police chief, said. Police say the repeated failed attempts to poison her parents indicate that the act was premeditated and not impulsive.

The Forbidden Love Behind the Crime

The motive reportedly stemmed from the father’s strong opposition to the relationship. The couple had eloped in July 2025, prompting Shana Chavda to file a case against Ranjeet under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Ranjeet was arrested but later released on bail in August. After his release, the duo allegedly conspired to kill the father and escape together.

Authorities say the teen’s repeated efforts to poison her parents, first through water, then through food, demonstrate careful planning. The failed attempts reportedly strengthened her and her lover’s resolve to carry out the murder successfully.

Investigation and Arrests

Police have arrested the minor, her lover Ranjeet, and his associate Bhavya. The girl has been sent to a child protection home. Authorities are investigating the source of the sleeping pills and knives used in the murder and are also probing whether others were aware of or involved in the crime.

This incident has raised serious concerns about adolescent criminal behavior and the extremes some young people may resort to in forbidden relationships. Vadodara police continue to investigate, examining every aspect of the crime, from the weapons and drugs to the planning and possible accomplices.
