Gujarat Man Lured Through Gay Dating App, Assaulted and Extorted

The CSR Journal Magazine

A man from Surendranagar district in Gujarat was reportedly targeted via a gay dating app, where he was allegedly lured into a trap by a gang. The incident occurred when the 44-year-old victim was enticed through the “Polo” app and invited to an abandoned house located on the outskirts of Surendranagar city. Police have indicated that the suspects aimed to blackmail the man by recording explicit material during the encounter.

Upon his arrival at the abandoned residence, the man encountered seven individuals who had allegedly conspired to extort him. The gang surrounded him, subjected him to physical violence, stripped him, and recorded obscene videos and photographs. This sequence of events was reported to be meticulously planned to intimidate and control the victim.

After the assault, the gang purportedly demanded Rs 31,000 in cash, threatening to disseminate the recorded content on social media platforms if the victim reported the incident or failed to comply with their demands. The harrowing experience left the victim in a state of trauma, leading him to seek police intervention.

Police Investigation and Arrests

In the aftermath of the incident, the victim filed a formal complaint with the police, triggering a swift investigation. Law enforcement agencies employed technical surveillance along with local intelligence to identify and apprehend the seven suspects connected to the case. The rapid response by the police helped in resolving the situation effectively.

The accused were identified as Sahil Chauhan, Shakti Bajipara, Bhargav Parmar, Sameer Kodia, Fardeen Shaikh, Sameer Dewan, and Ankit Tyagi. Following their arrests, police confirmed the recovery of the entire amount allegedly extorted from the victim, indicating progress in the case against the suspects.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that one of the suspects, Shakti Bajipara, has previously been involved in serious crimes related to honeytraps. Authorities suspect that the gang was using social media platforms and dating applications to locate and target potential victims, ultimately leading to their coercive schemes.

Broader Implications and Safety Concerns

This incident raises significant concerns about safety on digital platforms, particularly dating applications that may facilitate such unlawful activities. Investigators believe that the modus operandi of the gang highlights a growing trend of exploiting vulnerable individuals through online interactions. The dangers posed by these types of scams necessitate increased awareness and caution among users of dating apps.

Authorities are urging individuals to remain vigilant when interacting with strangers online, especially when invited to meet in person. Law enforcement agencies are also expected to enhance measures aimed at curbing similar incidents in the future. Training on recognising potential threats and understanding the risks associated with online interactions is essential for ensuring user safety.

The case continues to unfold as authorities gather more evidence and investigate the broader network that may exist around such criminal activities. The police have stated that they aim to pursue all necessary leads to hold accountable any individuals involved in this or similar offences.
