Gujarat Man Kills Friend, Cuts Body Into Pieces After Fight Over a Married Woman

The CSR Journal Magazine

A horrifying murder case has emerged from Nakhatrana taluka in Gujarat’s Kutch district, where a 19-year-old man allegedly killed his friend, dismembered his body, and scattered the remains across multiple locations. The crime, committed on December 2, came to light after the victim’s brother filed a missing person report the next day, prompting Kutch (West) police to launch an extensive search operation.

Jealousy Over Woman Triggered Attack

Investigations revealed that the victim, 20-year-old Ramesh Puja Maheshwari, had been in a relationship for nearly eight to ten months with a married woman identified as Anjali. According to Superintendent of Police (Kutch West) Vikas Sunda, the accused, Kishor Lakhamshi Maheshwari, was also interested in the woman and had made advances toward her.

When Anjali informed Ramesh about Kishor’s behaviour, it led to friction between the friends. Though they later reconciled, Kishor reportedly remained angered and jealous.

Dinner Turns Violent at Cotton Field

Police said Kishor invited Ramesh for dinner at a cotton field on December 2. On their way, they encountered a minor friend who joined them. While at the farm, the conversation returned to the woman, sparking another heated argument. According to SP Sunda, Ramesh refused to end his relationship despite Kishor’s insistence. Enraged, Kishor struck Ramesh repeatedly with a spade, killing him on the spot.

Body Dismembered, Dumped Across Three Borewells

The police said the accused then attempted to cover up the crime. As per Kishor’s confession, he first severed Ramesh’s head and threw it into a borewell, covering it with stones. He cut off both hands and dumped them in a second borewell. A pickaxe and dagger used in the crime were discarded in a third one. The torso and lower body were buried in a pit dug in the cotton field. The minor allegedly helped collect blood-soaked soil, which they packed in a sack and dumped in an unused well. They also burned the victim’s clothes and switched on the water supply to wash away bloodstains.

Statement of Police

Kutch (West) SP Vikas Sunda said in a statement: “On December 3, Rajesh Maheshwari lodged a missing persons complaint for his brother Ramesh, who had been missing for the previous 24 hours. Nakhatrana police launched a search for him.” “During the search operation, several people were questioned and police recovered Ramesh’s phone from Kishor, making him a possible suspect. The two had also recently fought over a woman. During questioning, Kishor kept changing his statements,” Sunda said.

Explaining the sequence of events, Sunda said, “When Kishor messaged the woman who was in a relationship with Ramesh, she blocked Kishor, leading to an argument between the friends. They had then reached a compromise and had become friends again. However, Kishor was deeply affected by the incident and he invited Ramesh to his cotton field for dinner on December 2. They went on his bike and on the way, they met a minor, who was their common friend, and all three went to the farm.”

Phone Clue Exposes Accused

During the missing person investigation on December 4, police recovered Ramesh’s phone from Kishor. Officers said this, along with his changing statements, made him a key suspect. Technical surveillance and human intelligence further confirmed his involvement. Under continuous questioning by PI A.M. Makwana, Kishor confessed and took police to the various sites where he had disposed of the body parts.

“At the farm, the topic of the woman came up again, leading to another altercation. During this fight, Kishor hit Ramesh with a spade multiple times,” the SP said.

Speaking about the disposal of the body, murder weapons and other evidence, Sunda said, “As per Kishor’s confession, he cut Ramesh’s head and put it in borewell-1 and threw several rocks on top of it. He then cut both of Ramesh’s hands and threw them in borewell-2. In borewell-3, Kishor dumped the pickaxe and dagger used in the murder. He then collected the mud where Ramesh’s blood had spilled, filled it in a sack, and dumped it in an unused well on the premises in a bid to destroy evidence. He then dug a pit in the cottonfield and buried the torso and lower part of Ramesh’s body there.”

Attempt to Mislead Investigators

Police added that Kishor even tried to mislead the victim’s family by sending messages from Ramesh’s phone, falsely claiming that Anjali’s brother had discovered the affair and was threatening him. This was supposedly to deflect blame onto the woman’s family. Both Kishor and the minor have been booked under charges of murder and destruction of evidence.
