Gujarat Man Arrested for Spying, Leaked Defence Info to Pakistan

A 28-year-old health worker from Gujarat’s Kutch district has been arrested by the state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for allegedly spying for Pakistan and sharing sensitive information about Indian defence installations. The accused, identified as Sahdev Singh Gohil, was working in Mata No Madh village, Lakhpat, close to the India-Pakistan border.

Authorities say that Gohil came into contact with a woman who introduced herself as Aditi Bharadwaj on WhatsApp in June 2023. It was later discovered that she was acting on behalf of Pakistani intelligence. Despite realising this, Gohil continued to communicate with her and sent photographs and videos of key Border Security Force (BSF), Indian Air Force (IAF), and Navy sites, especially those recently constructed or under construction in the Kutch region.

Investigation Reveals Espionage Network

The ATS began investigating Gohil after receiving intelligence inputs about his suspicious activities. He was called for questioning on 1 May 2025, where he admitted to sharing classified visuals and information with the Pakistani agent. In January 2025, Gohil bought a SIM card using his Aadhaar card and activated WhatsApp, sharing the one-time password (OTP) with his handler. This allowed the Pakistani agent to operate the WhatsApp account from across the border and directly receive sensitive content.

Forensic analysis of Gohil’s phone confirmed that the communication numbers were operated from Pakistan. Investigators also found that Gohil received ₹40,000 in cash from an unknown person as payment for the information. The ATS has filed a case against Gohil and the Pakistani agent under sections related to criminal conspiracy and waging war against the government.

This arrest comes amid increased security concerns following a recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have urged citizens, especially those living near the border, to be vigilant and report any suspicious contacts or activities to the police. The investigation is ongoing, with the ATS examining Gohil’s phone for further evidence and trying to identify others involved in the espionage network.
