The CSR Journal Magazine

On October 2, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel engaged in various commemorations for Gandhi Jayanti, beginning with floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Kirti Mandir in Porbandar. This event marked the 157th birth anniversary of the revered leader. Following the tribute, he attended a ‘Sarva Dharma Prayer Meeting’ aimed at fostering communal harmony and reflection.

During the prayer meeting, Patel expressed the significance of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings, which focus on truth, non-violence, and universal brotherhood. He emphasized how these values remain relevant and promote peaceful coexistence among diverse faiths within India. This alignment of Gandhi’s philosophies with contemporary societal values underscored the occasion.

Patel stated that prayer encourages self-reflection and compassion, fostering mutual respect and unity among individuals. He reiterated the importance of Sarva Dharma Sambhava, highlighting the necessity of equal respect among different beliefs and traditions to cultivate harmony in society.

Purchase of Khadi to Support Local Artisans

In a bid to promote Khadi and support local artisans, Chief Minister Patel visited the Khadi Gramodyog Haat of Saurashtra Rachnatmak Samiti in Gandhinagar. There, he purchased several Khadi garments, responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for increased Khadi usage and advocating the message ‘Khadi for Fashion, Khadi for Nation’. This initiative aims to uplift and assist families engaged in Khadi weaving.

The Chief Minister’s visit exemplified his commitment to fostering local craftsmanship while demonstrating the importance of supporting small-scale industries. The promotion of Khadi is part of a broader agenda initiated during Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister, which focuses on enabling economically disadvantaged communities associated with Khadi production.

During the visit, Patel conducted a digital transaction for his purchases as part of Modi’s initiative encouraging the adoption of digital payments. Energy Minister Rushikesh Patel and MLA Ritaben Patel accompanied him, providing further backing for the advocacy of local products and digital commerce.

Highlighting the Vision of Digital India

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel underscored the significance of digital payments in modern commerce, aligning this with the digital vision initiated by Prime Minister Modi. The use of digital means not only facilitates seamless transactions but also advocates for innovation and modernization in various sectors, including handicrafts and textiles.

In his statements, Patel related the digital payment initiative to Gandhiji’s vision of equitable development, indicating a shift towards contemporary means of promoting social welfare. This integration of technology into traditional practices aims to connect younger generations to Khadi while enhancing its appeal as a fashionable choice.

The campaign to strengthen the Khadi brand amidst the struggles of local weavers reflects a dual commitment to preserving cultural heritage and embracing modernity, ensuring the sustainable growth of this time-honoured fabric. Chief Minister Patel’s actions demonstrate a multifaceted approach encompassing historical reverence and progressive development.
