The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has categorically rejected claims regarding the government’s plans to mix ethanol with Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF). This clarification was issued in response to recent statements made by Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party. The MoCA termed the media reports as “completely false and irresponsible,” asserting that no such initiative is currently being contemplated.

Minister Addresses Concerns Raised by Misinformation

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu emphasised the importance of verifying information before dissemination, particularly concerning aviation fuel. He highlighted that spreading incorrect details could incite unnecessary anxiety among passengers. The Minister’s remarks underscore the government’s commitment to maintaining transparency and factual communication regarding aviation matters.

“Inaccurate information regarding aviation safety and fuel quality could potentially disrupt the confidence of travellers,” Naidu said. He reiterated that public trust is paramount and that unnecessary fear should not arise from unfounded claims. The Minister urged all stakeholders to rely on official sources for accurate updates related to civil aviation.

The Minister’s comments come at a time when the aviation sector is navigating through various challenges, including rising operational costs and evolving environmental standards. The blending of alternative fuels has been a topic of discussion globally, but in this instance, the Ministry is clear that ethanol blending in aviation fuel is not on the agenda.

Clarifications on Government Policy Regarding Fuel Blending

In recent years, the Indian government has explored diverse alternatives to traditional fossil fuels in various sectors, including transportation. However, the present clarification indicates that such initiatives are not yet applicable to aviation fuel. Stakeholders in the aviation industry are advised to focus on existing regulations and policies as outlined by MoCA.

The MoCA routinely engages with various organisation leaders, airlines, and fuel suppliers to discuss and assess fuel standards and alternatives. By focusing dialogue on substantiated proposals, the government aims to facilitate transparent discussions within the industry, ensuring that any advancements align with safety and regulatory requirements.
