Florida’s Palm Beach Airport Set to Become ‘President Donald J. Trump International’

The CSR Journal Magazine

Travelers heading to South Florida may soon arrive at an airport renamed after the US President, as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed legislation to change Palm Beach International Airport to “Donald J. Trump International Airport.” The name change awaits approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The announcement came earlier today when Eric Trump, son of Donald Trump, shared the news on X.

Legislation Details and Approval Timeline

The legislation, known as House Bill 919, received approval on March 30 and empowers Florida to rename major commercial service airports starting July 1. It mandates that any official government records, including maps, reflect the new name post-approval. The bill, which was proposed in January and filed in December 2025, highlights the necessity for an agreement allowing Palm Beach County to have the perpetual right to utilize the new name for airport branding and related purposes, contingent upon FAA clearance.

Trademark Applications Filed by Trump Organization

The Trump Organization has initiated trademark applications to secure rights related to the new airport name. Initially, the Florida Senate proposed a budget of $2.75 million to manage the costs associated with the renaming, a decrease from a previous estimate of $5.5 million. This financial provision aims to address necessary updates following the name change.

Previous Decisions on Airport Naming

This renaming follows an earlier decision made in January to designate part of the main road leading to the airport as President Donald J. Trump Boulevard. At that time, Trump expressed feeling “tremendously honored” by such recognition and reiterated his fondness for Florida and the Palm Beach region. Although Trump hasn’t publicly addressed the latest airport name change, his son Eric Trump conveyed his pride on social media, thanking various officials, including Governor DeSantis and bill sponsor Representative Meg Weinberger, for their support.

Reactions from Political Leaders

The Republican Party of Florida has characterized the renaming as “a landmark tribute” to Donald Trump. Conversely, dissent has emerged from Democratic leaders, including Florida House Minority Leader Fentrice Driskell. Driskell criticized the decision, arguing that “Republicans are out of touch with real issues affecting Floridians,” and contended that “the people of Florida did not ask for this.” The legislation specifies that the branding rights are granted at no cost, ensuring neither Donald Trump nor his family will receive royalties or licensing fees from the airport’s renaming.
