A horrifying hit-and-run incident in Dwarka, West Delhi, has claimed the life of a 45-year-old fire safety officer after a speeding Mahindra Thar rammed into his motorcycle and fled the spot. The collision happened on the night between October 6 and 7, as the victim was heading home from work.
Driver Flees Scene
The deceased, Ashish Sharma, was employed at a private company and had just finished his shift in Shalimar Bagh. As he travelled on his Bajaj Platina, a Thar SUV collided with him near Sector-7 in Dwarka. Following the crash, the vehicle’s occupants reportedly abandoned the car and ran from the scene, leaving Sharma critically injured.
The Delhi Police have since seized the Thar, which bore visible signs of high-impact damage. The front bumper and bonnet were both heavily dented, and the windshield on the driver’s side was shattered, leaving a large gaping hole suggesting the force of the crash was severe.
At the crash site, Sharma’s bike was discovered lying on its side, its front wheel bent and lodged against a roadside fence pointing to a secondary impact after the initial collision. Authorities stated that no CCTV footage has been retrieved so far, though visuals from the scene provide crucial clues in the investigation.
Victim’s Body Sent to Post Mortem
Sharma’s body was transferred to Deendayal Hospital, where a post-mortem was conducted. His remains were released to his family on Tuesday evening, according to police sources.
This incident echoes a similarly devastating crash that occurred last month in Gurugram, where a Mahindra Thar lost control on a national highway and smashed into a divider. That accident claimed five lives, including three women, while one person was injured. Officials said all six victims had travelled from Uttar Pradesh to Gurugram for work. Four people died on the spot, and one of the two survivours died in hospital shortly after.
Police are currently searching for the absconding driver in the latest Dwarka case and are urging anyone with information to come forward. A case of culpable homicide is expected to be registered pending further evidence.
