Anurag Kashyap Breaks Silence on Epstein File Rumors: “Clickbaits in My Name Outshine My Films”

The CSR Journal Magazine

Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has issued a public statement after his name appeared in documents related to the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein. The files, which have been widely shared online, include a range of unverified emails and records alleged to be linked to Epstein’s network and have drawn renewed international attention.

Kashyap, known for directing films such as Gangs of Wasseypur and Black Friday, was cited in one of the email exchanges within the released files as a “Bollywood guy” and a “famous Bollywood director.” These references surfaced amid a renewed examination of millions of pages of materials released by the United States Department of Justice in connection with past investigations into Epstein’s activities.

Kashyap denies any link to Epstein or alleged events

In response, Kashyap has firmly denied any association with Jeffrey Epstein or any of the activities referenced in the documents. Speaking to a media outlet, he said he has “no clue” about the matter and emphasized that he frequently receives numerous invitations for events and speaking engagements from various organizations. “I get invited to speak at many places, sometimes 15 times a month. I rarely respond,” he said.

He also dismissed suggestions of attending any meetings or events connected to the alleged network, asserting that he has never visited locations referenced in the material. “I have never been to Beijing in my life,” Kashyap stated, addressing claims of a specific event location linked to the email mention.

Questions raised over authenticity and interpretation

Kashyap questioned the credibility of the documents that have been circulated online, describing the information as “some random email.” He also addressed the manner in which his name has been used in media coverage, stating, “The clickbaits in my name are more popular than my films.”

While the documents have triggered widespread speculation about the involvement of several global figures, analysts and legal experts have advised a cautious approach, warning against drawing definitive conclusions from unverified material lacking corroboration.

Other Indian filmmakers also named in documents

Alongside Kashyap, other Indian filmmakers such as Mira Nair and Nandita Das have reportedly been mentioned in the same set of files. However, inclusion of names in the documents does not imply confirmation of any wrongdoing. There is currently no evidence indicating the direct involvement of the named individuals in any of the alleged incidents connected to Epstein’s network.
