Father-in-Law Confesses of Raping and Killing Daughter-in-Law, Dumping Body Under Concrete

A 24-year-old woman who had gone missing in April from her marital home in Faridabad was found buried under a newly constructed concrete section of a lane near the house. The case has now revealed a chilling tale of sexual assault, domestic abuse, and premeditated murder allegedly carried out by her husband and in-laws.

The victim, identified as Tanu Rajput, hailed from Shikohabad in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district. She had been married to Arun Singh since July 2023. However, her marital life was marred by alleged dowry-related harassment and abuse, according to her family.

Authorities reported that on April 21, a carefully orchestrated murder was executed. Her husband allegedly spiked her meal with sleeping pills, rendering her unconscious. His sister, who also consumed the same food, was similarly affected. It remains unclear whether she was an intended target or collateral.

Taking advantage of the situation, Tanu’s father-in-law, Bhoop Singh, entered her room late that night. According to his confession, instead of proceeding directly with the planned killing, he raped the unconscious woman. He later strangled her, called his son for help, and the two allegedly transported the body into a pit that had been dug under the pretense of drain work.

Murder Covered Up as Construction, Body Hidden Under Concrete

The burial site—a 10-foot-deep trench just outside the house—was later filled with soil, bricks, and topped with a concrete slab. Neighbors had assumed it was routine construction work. Days later, a missing persons report was filed by Bhoop Singh in an attempt to divert suspicion.

Meanwhile, Tanu’s husband informed her family that she had fled with a lover, leaving the main gate open. However, Tanu’s family, unconvinced by this explanation, approached the police, leading to a deeper investigation.

On June 21, authorities uncovered the woman’s decomposed body from beneath the slab. Post-mortem examinations and interrogation of suspects led to shocking revelations. Bhoop Singh admitted to the assault and murder, revealing that his wife was aware of the plot and had deliberately gone to a wedding in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah to avoid being implicated.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including murder, conspiracy, and common intention. Four individuals are named in the FIR: Tanu’s husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law. Police continue to examine the sister-in-law’s involvement to determine whether she was informed after the fact or remained silent knowingly.

Victim Faced Dowry Harassment, Lived Away from In-Laws for a Year

Tanu’s sister, Preeti Rajput, told investigators that her sibling had faced severe domestic abuse and pressure for additional dowry. Tanu had even stayed away from her in-laws for over a year after the wedding due to this mistreatment.

The incident has sparked outrage in the local community, not only for the brutality of the crime but also for the deliberate deception and abuse of public infrastructure to cover it up.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities say further arrests and charges may follow depending on the findings.
