“Excursion that will keep us out of war:” Trump on strikes against Iran

The CSR Journal Magazine

During a visit to the Thermo Fisher Scientific facility in Cincinnati, President Donald Trump characterized the ongoing US military operations against Iran as a necessary measure aimed at preventing further conflict. He referred to these actions as an “excursion,” emphasizing that their main objective is to diminish Iran’s military capabilities, particularly concerning their missile and drone technology. In his remarks to reporters, Trump stated, “It’s both. It’s an excursion that will keep us out of a war, and for us, it has turned out to be easier than we thought.”

Targeting Military Assets

Trump detailed that the military strikes are primarily focused on neutralizing Iranian missile launch capabilities and drone production facilities. “We limited their ability to launch attacks quickly,” he said, citing the large number of missiles Iran possessed. “They had thousands of missiles, up to 8,000. We intercepted many of them before they could be launched.” The president mentioned that American forces have targeted various facilities associated with drone manufacturing and maritime assets potentially involved in laying mines.

Extent of Military Engagement

Trump elaborated on the breadth of the military actions, noting that US forces have successfully struck multiple Iranian vessels engaged in mine-laying operations. “We have hit 28 mine ships as of this moment,” he claimed, while also stating that the US employed weaponry similar to that used in previous maritime operations aimed at disrupting drug trafficking. He asserted that these efforts had effectively reduced drug infiltration via maritime routes by approximately 97%. “Now we’ll apply the same approach on land, which is easier than on water,” he added.

Praise for US Military Strength

Prior to his Ohio and Kentucky visit, Trump expressed confidence in the prowess of the US armed forces. He declared, “We have the greatest military in the world, by far. Nobody’s close.” He further noted that recent strikes had significantly crippled Iran’s military infrastructure, including its naval and air forces. “Right now, they’ve lost their navy and their air force. They have no anti-aircraft capabilities at all. Their leaders are gone,” he remarked.

Destruction of Iranian Naval Capabilities

Trump emphasized the scale of the damage inflicted on Iran’s naval assets, stating that US forces have taken out approximately 60 mine-laying vessels in quick succession. “We took out just about all of their mine ships in one night. I didn’t realize they had such a large navy, but it has proven to be ineffective,” he commented. He claimed that nearly all of Iran’s naval forces are now “at the bottom of the sea,” highlighting the perceived success of the military operations.

Long-Term Implications

In concluding his remarks, Trump noted the extensive history of damage that Iran has caused over the last 47 years, framing the current military engagement as a corrective measure. “We’ve knocked out their navy, their air force, and almost all their mine boats,” he stated, underscoring the significant impact of these strategic military actions on Iran’s capabilities.
