Enforced Disappearance Allegations Against Balochistan Security Forces Spark Rights Concerns

The CSR Journal Magazine

Recent reports indicate that three young Baloch men, including a minor, have allegedly been subjected to enforced disappearances in Balochistan’s Kech and Gwadar districts. This is based on local accounts and statements from human rights monitors, as detailed by The Balochistan Post.

On July 4, at approximately 3 am, security personnel reportedly conducted a raid in the Gwak area of Mand, Kech district. During the operation, they allegedly took Sohail Rasool Bakhsh, a minor and son of Rasool Bakhsh, from his home. Witnesses claim he was removed without any legal justification and has since been moved to an undisclosed location.

The family of Sohail Rasool Bakhsh has not received any communication regarding his status or whereabouts since the incident. They further allege that during the raid, women and children present were reportedly subjected to physical mistreatment, while security personnel confiscated their mobile phones.

Details of Multiple Raids and Detentions

In a separate incident occurring approximately thirty minutes later in the same vicinity, forces allegedly entered the residence of Aziz Baloch and detained his son, Hamza Aziz. According to family members, Hamza was taken without any clarity on the legal grounds for his detention, leaving his family anxious about his condition.

As with the previous case, authorities have not disclosed any information regarding Hamza’s whereabouts or the reasons for his apprehension, thereby heightening the family’s concern. Reports indicate a pattern of behaviour where security forces operate without transparency.

Additionally, the Balochistan-based human rights group PAANK has reported that a student named Idrees, son of Rahmat, was allegedly abducted around midnight on July 1 in Gwadar district. The organisation claims that personnel associated with the Frontier Corps and Military Intelligence were involved in this incident.

Longstanding Concerns Over Human Rights Violations

These incidents of enforced disappearances contribute to ongoing allegations related to human rights violations in Balochistan. Both families and human rights organisations have persistently accused Pakistani security forces and intelligence agencies of detaining individuals without following due process.

Many individuals reportedly vanish from public view, with claims that they are held at undisclosed locations, leading to a growing public outcry. Families affected by such actions often express deep anguish, fearing for the safety and well-being of their loved ones.

The situation in Balochistan presents a complex landscape of security concerns, legal issues, and human rights challenges. As international awareness of these alleged violations increases, calls for accountability and systemic changes continue to resonate among activists and observers alike.
