Divya Mittal Emerges as Key Figure in Uttar Pradesh Politics

The CSR Journal Magazine

Divya Mittal has emerged as a notable point of interest within the INDIA bloc, raising eyebrows particularly among the Congress and the Samajwadi Party as the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections approach. Allegations have surfaced regarding her potential affiliation with the Congress party, while the Samajwadi Party reportedly seeks to engage her as well. This situation unfolds as political dynamics in Uttar Pradesh continue to evolve, highlighting the significance of her potential entry into politics for both parties.

The speculation surrounding her political future intensified following the appearance of her image on a promotional poster for Raja Bhaiya’s Jan Satta Dal Loktantrik Party. Despite this interest from various political factions, Mittal has opted for an independent path, expressing her intention to embark on a political journey outside of established party affiliations.

Mittal’s Transition from Bureaucracy to Politics

Mittal, a 2013-batch IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, tendered her resignation from civil services on August 30 after a thirteen-year tenure in the bureaucracy. Her resignation prompted public curiosity about her subsequent steps, timed closely with the upcoming assembly elections. Speculative narratives gathered momentum, particularly after BJP spokesperson Prashant Umrao made a now-deleted claim on X, suggesting that she had engaged in a clandestine meeting with prominent Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

This assertion linked her departure from civil service directly to the political climate in Uttar Pradesh, positing that she might align with the Congress ahead of the polls. In light of this, Mittal has taken a different stance regarding her political aspirations.

Approximately one month following her resignation, Mittal declared her intention to enter politics through a nine-minute video message shared across her social media platforms on September 29. In this message, she addressed the inquiries that arose after her exit from the IAS, stating, “I resigned from IAS last month and left many questions behind. This is a big task, and I was gathering courage. Today I have come to answer. What next? The answer is politics.” However, she clarified that her political engagement would not align with established political parties.

Mittal’s Unique Political Approach

Mittal’s approach to politics is unique, characterised by her desire to engage directly with the populace rather than through the banner of a traditional political party. She has publicly requested public support for her initiative and shared a WhatsApp number for individuals interested in connecting with her. Her inaugural foray into politics thus begins without the affiliation of a political party.

At 42 years of age, Mittal indicated that her political activities would commence in Uttar Pradesh, a region she referred to as her karmabhoomi, or working land. She emphasised her motive to advocate for ordinary citizens, aiming to become a voice for those whose concerns often go unheard in governmental circles. Her decision to enter the political arena, she remarked, was largely influenced by her experiences during her extensive service in administration.

As she sets forth on this political endeavour, it remains to be seen how her actions will unfold and whether her trajectory will converge with established political frameworks or persist independently. The anticipation surrounding Mittal’s moves is considerable as the landscape of Uttar Pradesh politics gains momentum ahead of the approaching assembly elections.
