Delhi Red Fort Case: NIA Court Extends Judicial Custody of Shaheen Saeed and Six Others

The CSR Journal Magazine

A Special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Patiala House has prolonged the judicial custody of seven individuals, including Dr. Shaheen Saeed, Mufti Irfan, Dr. Adeel Ahmed, Jasir Bilal Wani, Dr. Muzammil, Yasir Ahmed Dar, and Nasir Bilal Malla, by an additional 15 days. Following the conclusion of their previous custody period, the accused were brought before the court through video conferencing. Special Judge Pitambar Dutt ordered the extension to facilitate ongoing investigations.

Ongoing Investigations Disrupted

During the previous hearing held on March 11, the NIA expressed concerns that the investigation into the case was being hampered by protests in support of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Jammu and Kashmir. Concurrently, two other accused, Tufail Ahmed Bhat and Zamir Ahmed Ahangar, are currently being held under NIA custody for five additional days. The court had earlier granted a 45-day extension for the investigation period, acknowledging the complexities surrounding the case.

Details of the Blast Incident

A significant explosion occurred near the Red Fort on November 11, 2025, involving a car. The NIA arrested the primary suspect, Aamir Rashid Mir, on November 16, 2025. Following his arrest, several individuals—including Jasir Bilal Wani, Mufti Irfan Ahmed, Dr. Muzammil Shakeel, Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather, Dr. Shaheen Saeed, and Soyeb—were taken into custody on varying dates as investigations progressed. The case originally stems from alleged terrorism-related activities connected to the blast.

Additional Arrests and Investigative Findings

Recently, the NIA apprehended two residents from Jammu and Kashmir believed to have ties to the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind terror organization for allegedly providing firearms to the main suspect. The agency confirmed that Zameer Ahmad Ahangar from Ganderbal and Tufail Ahmad Bhat from Srinagar are identified as over-ground workers (OGWs) for the AGH, raising the total number of arrests in this case to eleven. The NIA’s investigations indicate that these two individuals played a role in the conspiracy related to the blast as well as participation in other terrorist activities.

Charges and Evidence Collected

The NIA has indicated that both Zameer Ahmad and Tufail Ahmad were involved in collecting arms and ammunition that were intended for operations against the Indian state. An extensive investigation involving the NIA, in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, and related agencies, revealed their connections to various terror plans. The agency continues to scrutinize evidence accrued throughout the ongoing inquiry.
