Delhi government to Redesign Garden of Five Senses Park

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi government is all set to turn the Garden of Five Senses Park, which was designed to stimulate the five senses of sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste, into a recreational hub. Visitors can now expect to visit an Ayurvedic wellness spa, a library café, a craft café showcasing local artisanship, rock climbing area, paintball ground, as well as other adventurous activities.

The Delhi Tourism Department has also invited an Expression of Interest (EOI) to engage a consultant to prepare a plan for this upgrade.

“Activities like pre-wedding shoots take place in the park, but to promote tourism, the department is planning comprehensive development. We have invited a tender to appoint a consultant/landscape architect,” said a senior official associated with the park to the national media.

The consultant’s job will be to redesign the entire park, including open and covered spaces, signage, art elements, furniture, shelter, parking, boundary wall, exit/entry gates, tourist activities, rainwater harvesting, and others.

“The idea is to develop the park in a way that irrespective of whether you are a nature lover, fitness enthusiast, art admirer, someone looking for the perfect photo spot, or someone who just wants to take a break and listen to the music from the singing trees from Baster, or the music pillars from South India — you can find it here,” the official further stated.

Earlier Plans

This is not the first time that such a development plan for the garden is being proposed. Earlier, senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who was also the Tourism Minister of Delhi, proposed activities such as bungee jumping and rock climbing, but the Forest Department refused clearances.

“Since there are rocks and trees adjoining the forest areas nearby, we will have to seek permission… The appointed consultant will study and give suggestions that will be feasible and not harm nature… The aim is to upgrade the park and beautify it, offering a variety of activities, keeping in mind eco-sustainability,” the official added.

The redevelopment will be done in compliance with the Delhi Master Plan. Currently, the park is divided into zones that include the Entrance and Administration Plaza, Khas Bagh, Rainwater Pond, Rang Bagh, Neel Bagh, Zen Garden, Amphitheatre, Rockridge, and Solar Energy Park.
