Panic and outrage gripped the Sunder Nagar locality of Giaspura in Ludhiana. This comes after a seven-year-old boy reportedly discovered a dead lizard inside a factory-packed ice cream cone. The boy allegedly had purchased the ice cream from a street vendor.
The shocking incident occurred on Monday when the boy bought two Choco Bar kulfis for Rs 20 from a local cart operating under the name “Milk Bell.”
Shocking discovery while eating ice cream
According to reports, the boy began eating one of the ice creams at home peacefully. However, he noticed an unusual object inside the cone. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was a dead lizard embedded in the ice cream. Alarmed, he immediately informed his grandmother, who rushed to confront the vendor and urged him to stop selling the ice cream. Despite her plea and the ensuing commotion, the vendor allegedly continued selling the product in the neighborhood.
Following the incident, the residents were infuriated by the vendor’s refusal to halt sale. The locals gathered around his cart and confronted the vendor. In his defense, he claimed that the ice creams were pre-packed and sourced directly from the company. The vendor denied any direct involvement in the contamination.
Child falls sick
The child who discovered the lizard in his ice cream, soon began to feel unwell. He was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital for medical treatment. Medical professionals have since confirmed that his condition is stable. However, concerns over potential health risks still remain.
The disturbing incident has prompted action from local authorities. The District Health Officer (DHO) has confirmed that health officials will collect samples of the ice cream on June 10. The sample would be sent for inspection to conduct a thorough investigation. The goal is to trace the origin of the contamination and verify whether the issue stems from manufacturing, storage, or handling during distribution.
Video of the incident goes viral
Meanwhile, a video of the incident has since gone viral. In the video the boy’s grandmother is seen holding the child while confronting the vendor. The family of the 7-year-old has demanded accountability and urged officials to take stringent action to prevent such dangerous lapses in food safety in the future.
Meanwhile, residents of the Sunder Nagar area are calling for a temporary ban on ice cream sales by the vendor until the investigation is complete.
