Daylight Murder in Patna: Five Gunmen Kill Murder Accused on Parole Inside Hospital

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a brazen act of violence that has rattled the state capital, a notorious criminal out on medical parole was shot dead inside a private hospital in broad daylight on Thursday. The incident, which unfolded inside Patna’s Paras Hospital, has raised urgent questions over public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in Bihar.

Chandan Mishra, a convicted criminal facing several murder charges in Buxar district, had been released from Beur Jail temporarily for medical treatment. He was undergoing care at the private hospital when five assailants, armed with guns, stormed into the facility and opened fire on him inside his room. Despite receiving emergency medical attention, Mishra succumbed to his injuries.

The incident was captured on hospital surveillance cameras. Footage revealed the attackers moving unchallenged through hospital corridors before entering Mishra’s cabin and firing multiple rounds at close range. They left the premises without encountering any resistance, raising serious concerns about the hospital’s internal security protocols.

Gang Rivalry Behind Hospital Killing: SSP

Senior police officials have indicated that the attack may have been orchestrated by a rival faction known as the Chandan Sheru gang. “We are collaborating with Buxar district police to identify those responsible,” said Patna SSP Kartikay Sharma. “All leads suggest that this was the result of a long-standing gang rivalry.”

Following the shooting, law enforcement launched an intensive search operation, and an investigation was opened into possible lapses in security at the hospital. Central Range IG Jitendra Rana stated, “It cannot be ruled out that the security guards were involved. We will investigate this angle as well.”

Patna Central SP Diksha confirmed that the deceased had been on parole and said that preliminary evidence pointed to personal enmity or gang retaliation as the motive. “The incident took place when the deceased had come for treatment at the hospital. He was on parole,” she stated.

Opposition Slams Govt Over ICU Killing

The killing has sparked a flurry of political reactions across party lines. Opposition parties accused the ruling NDA government of allowing unchecked criminal activity. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav condemned the breakdown of public safety, stating, “Gunmen walked into an ICU and shot a patient. Is anyone safe anywhere in Bihar today? Such a situation didn’t exist even before 2005.”

Independent MP Pappu Yadav demanded the imposition of President’s Rule in Bihar. Denouncing the state’s handling of the situation, he said, “Nurses, doctors — no one is safe here. This government shelters criminals and mafias. There is no administration left in Bihar.”

Congress leaders also weighed in, accusing the state government of fostering a culture of impunity. Sharing the CCTV footage, the party claimed Bihar was under “goon rule.” Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh said that crime had skyrocketed under the current NDA rule. “Bihar’s ‘Goon Rule’. In the past 17 days, 46 murders have occurred,” the party said in a statement.

RJD MP Urges Centre to Probe Bihar’s Security Crisis

Meanwhile, RJD MP Manoj Jha called for federal intervention, demanding that the Prime Minister dispatch a fact-finding team to assess the deteriorating security climate. “Bihar should be a matter of concern for the entire country… Is this the rule of law?” he asked.

Adding to the unrest, another homicide was reported on the same morning in Patna’s Shahpur area. A 20-year-old man named Shivam, also known as Bunty, was found murdered outside his home. He had sustained fatal injuries to the head, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp object.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha called the shooting “deeply unfortunate” and promised decisive action. However, growing criticism from opposition leaders and the public continues to highlight what many perceive as a collapse of law and order in the state.

As the investigation continues, no arrests have been made, and authorities remain under pressure to restore public confidence and bring those responsible to justice.
