CRPF Officer’s Tearful Plea for Justice After Wedding Jewellery Theft Sparks Outrage

The CSR Journal Magazine

A woman officer serving with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jammu and Kashmir has publicly accused local police in Tamil Nadu of failing to act promptly after her family reported a theft. The officer, 32-year-old Kalavathi, broke down in tears during a video that quickly spread across social media, as she detailed the burglary at her family home and the subsequent lack of police response.

Kalavathi narrated the incident in the video, saying, “The lock was broken and all the jewels which I had kept for my wedding were stolen. When my mother returned by 5.30 pm the lock was broken and the jewels were stolen. My parents were crying when my brother returned. Seeing this he filed a complaint on June 24 but no one came to investigate claiming there was Chief Minister’s security duty on June 25. Only later finger print was collected and FIR filed on June 28.”

Family’s Wedding Savings Stolen, Justice Awaited

The break-in occurred on June 24 in Narayanapuram village, near Ponnai. At the time, Kalavathi’s father and brother were away working in the fields, while her mother was out grazing cattle. The family was left distraught, having lost jewellery they had set aside for Kalavathi’s upcoming wedding. Despite numerous attempts to follow up, Kalavathi stated that the police provided little assistance.

Responding to the allegations, Vellore District Police confirmed receiving the complaint from Kalavathi’s father, Kumarasamy, on June 24. The police reported that the stolen items included 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery, Rs 50,000 cash, and a silk saree intended for the wedding. They registered the case on June 25 under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. Investigators collected fingerprint evidence and examined CCTV footage as part of their inquiry.

Police Tighten Inquiry, Focus on Ex-Husband in Jewellery Theft

The police added that on June 29, Kumarasamy updated his statement to reflect that the stolen jewellery weighed 22.5 sovereigns. They also mentioned that suspicion was directed towards Santosh, Kalavathi’s ex-husband. Authorities insisted that the investigation was proceeding without delay and refuted the claim that the FIR was registered late.

The video caught the attention of BJP leader K Annamalai, who shared it on X, sharply criticising the government’s response. “What kind of governance forces a woman in uniform to beg for justice online while wearing the nation’s flag on her shoulder? This is not just lawlessness, it’s the DMK’s model of governance, where criminals roam free and the protectors of our nation plead for help,” he wrote.
