Police play a major role in maintaining law and order. They don’t get time to focus on important things while ensuring this through hectic routines. Under the ‘Anubhav’ initiative of Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini (RMP), participants are guided about important aspects of life by experts at its lush campus in Uttan, District Thane. The 2-day workshop was conducted for the railway police officers from Mumbai. While highlighting the significance of good governance, useful sessions on health, Yoga, environment, reading, communication and management were conducted for the officers.
Good governance to poetry, via lifestyle and nature
The first day of the workshop (9th April) started with talks on the important aspect of narcotics and national security. The role of security in ensuring good governance was highlighted. The health of police officers is a crucial factor while handling these and other issues. The second session explained that this is possible only through right lifestyle. After discussing the measures to further enhance people’s faith in the police, all the officers were introduced to the biodiversity of Mumbai Metropolitan Region via a presentation. Thereafter, everybody went on a nature trail in the serene premises of RMP obtaining first-hand experience of the birds and trees present. Then, everybody learnt about Bhilar – The village of books – before proceeding to enjoy poetry recitation in the end.
Asanas, inter-personal skills and team building
The railway police officers began the second day by engaging in Asanas in the company of nature early in the morning. The next session was on community policing to ensure order through people’s participation. Police feel the need for right inter-personal skills more than anybody else to effectively communicate with others. An entire session was dedicated to imbibing essential communication skills. Management of any task happens better if one properly understands the concept of team building. It is very important for the police force to develop this as well. The last two sessions focussed on this. Thereafter, there was discussion on the outreach initiatives of Palghar Police.
Shri. Dattaji Kuperkar, Senior Inspector, Control Room-Borivali, Railway Police, Mumbai, said, “On the first day of this workshop that had the central theme of good governance, we experienced the nature trail and the lecture on lifestyles to discover the self. Nitin Londhe, Senior Inspector, Railway Police Station, Andheri, said, “The workshop was successful. The lecture on narcotics, guidance on self-development and the nature trail went very well.
