Clashes Erupt Between BJYM and NSUI Workers During NEET-UG Protest in Ranchi

The CSR Journal Magazine

Clashes took place between Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) workers outside the BJP office in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on May 26, 2026. The confrontation arose during demonstrations regarding the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case. This incident is part of a broader nationwide protest led by NSUI, which has organised ‘Mashaal March’ protests in various regions of the country.

Allegations and Accusations Against the Government

The NSUI has sharply criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government for its inability to prevent alleged irregularities associated with the NEET examination. During protests, NSUI National President Vinod Jakhar accused the government of misleading the public and failing to address the escalating concerns over examination integrity. He stated that the unrest among students was a direct reflection of their dissatisfaction with the current administration.

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition, has also voiced strong criticisms regarding the exam-related issues. He alleged that there exists a “nexus” involving the RSS, BJP, and university appointees, which he claims has compromised India’s educational standards. Gandhi’s statements included claims that examination papers had been compromised up to 80 times, impacting the futures of approximately 2 crore students.

In a message directed at younger voters, Gandhi stated on social media that if the government failed to protect the students’ futures, the Opposition would step in. He also challenged Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, demanding his resignation and calling for accountability from those involved in the alleged paper leak incidents.

Government Responses and Future Steps

The Union Education Ministry has responded to the allegations by asserting that a full paper leak had not occurred. Officials from the National Testing Agency (NTA) informed the Parliamentary Standing Committee that only specific questions had allegedly been leaked prior to the examination day. This statement has not alleviated the ongoing political tensions surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 controversy.

As the protests continue, NSUI has demanded a thorough investigation into the allegations and has called for the establishment of a Joint Parliamentary Committee to examine the matter comprehensively. These demands come in light of the cancellation of the NEET-UG examination initially scheduled for May 3, which affected over 22 lakh candidates across 551 cities and 14 international centres.

A re-examination has been scheduled for June 21, aimed at ensuring stricter security measures in light of the recent controversies. This response by the Union Government and NTA is being closely watched by stakeholders, including students, educational institutions, and political analysts, as the situation develops.
