The ongoing stand-off regarding the alleged NEET-UG paper leak has led Saurav Das, an activist of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and leader of the protests, to decline a government invitation for discussions at BJP leader JP Nadda’s home. Das stated that any dialogue should occur in a public setting, specifically at Jantar Mantar, where he and other protesters have assembled.

In his comments to the media, Das asserted that the invitation was firmly rejected, highlightng the necessity for ministers to engage directly with the public. He proposed a neutral alternative location near Jantar Mantar if the government had genuine security concerns regarding the meeting at a private residence.

Das made it clear that the activists are uninterested in “fruitless conversations” and called for evident governmental commitment to address their demands. He reiterated the urgency for resolving concerns, given that thousands remain engaged in the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar.

Key Demands Presented by Protest Leaders

During the media interaction, Das outlined three critical demands essential for concluding the protests. Firstly, he insisted that Dharmendra Pradhan should resign from his position. Secondly, he specified that families of students who took their own lives due to the alleged paper leak should receive compensation totalling 1 crore rupees. Lastly, he asked for all FIRs against peaceful demonstrators to be withdrawn and sought guarantees that no further legal actions would be taken against such individuals in the future.

Throughout the protests, Das expressed the need for a clear governmental intention to accept their demands. He emphasised that if the government considers the discussions invalid, it is imperative for them to convey that message clearly to the activists.

While addressing concerns about the escalating tensions during protests, Das strongly urged participants to uphold the peaceful essence of their movement. He warned against violence and reaffirmed the importance of peaceful discourse, urging protesters to refrain from aggressive actions toward law enforcement and to stay focused on their primary objectives.

Call for Transparency Regarding Detained Individuals

In addition to the demands regarding resignations and legal assurances, Das called for enhanced transparency concerning the individuals detained or injured during the protests. He stated that the activist group has requested specific data from the police regarding these individuals and anticipates timely access to this information.

Das indicated that accurate information regarding arrests and health statuses following protests is vital. He stressed that while they operate on rough estimates, it is essential to receive detailed figures from law enforcement agencies to ensure accountability and clarity.

He concluded his statements by emphasising the importance of obtaining accurate data to bolster the protest’s integrity, demonstrating the need for communication between the police and activists during this critical period.
